idle at 1k
well i noticed since i installed a cluster with a tach my motor idles at 1k. i checked but i dont see any vacuum leaks. i know where the idle adjust valve is and im wondering if i should adjust it myself or would it be better to bring it to a mechanic? could something else be wrong? i have a stock d15b2. does a high idle affect anything? if i were to adjust it myself how would i go about that?
well higher idles will effect your gas mileage... some engines dont have a idle adjust valve if not (not sure of your engine) try to adjust your throttle cable by turning the nut on the cable and if thats not the problem, i would go another route, tps, map sensor, iacv maybe

Dont listen to this guy , its simple , theres a screw just above the throat of your throttle body that fine tunes your idle , and air.
Turn it counter clockwise to raise idle , clockwise to lower.
Dont turn it in to far or you will end up with a chirpish whistle resonating out ot the throttle body.
Hope this helps

Get a repair manual, all this is covered in it. But since I've done it recently, here you go:
1.) Warm engine to op. temp.
2.) Unplug EACV connector (it's on the back of the intake manifold, 2 hoses going into it)
3.) Check idle speed, should be 650 or so RPM
4.) Turn idle screw on TB to dial in correct idle
5.) Plug EACV back in, should hear a sucking noise
6.) Shut car off, reset ECU to clear CEL
Repeat the same procedure with the blower on high (A/C if you have it), high beams and rear defroster on, it should stay the same, if not re-check and adjust again. You may also have to clean out the EACV (pretty common) using carb or MAF cleaner.

so wiz whats should my tach look like? just alil bit above 500 rpms? do you have a pic you can show me? and when you same repeat the same procedure do you mean just turn the blower on high? or doing steps 1-6 then turn on the blower? sorry i dont have a repair manual
You need a handheld tachometer to get the correct idle speed, it usually will hook up to the battery and the #1 spark plug wire. Yes, repeat the same procedure (1-6) with the blower (A/C on if it's there), high beams and defroster on. Get a repair manual!!!!!!!

If you know how to use it try to turn it down, just mark where you had it before incase you have to set it back for any reason
