Default Honda Stud

well last weekend i was putting the valve cover back and tightning the studs...adn then one of them broke off..*snap*..so yea..was wondering if i had to speacial order it or just run to the hardware store. Also what is the size?

just go to the dealership and buy one. i have no idea if a generic stud from a hardware store would work, but i know you won't find anything like the oem stud there.

Yeah you'll definatly need to go to honda for that one. Question is, can you get the broken piece out of the head?

lol same thing happin to my friend..same bolt to...but you shouldent have to special order it..since it happins all the time ..honda should have them in stock.

just take off ur valve cover..unscrew it from the head..and then do that in reverse with the new one...so iv been told..iv never actually done it.


i give him **** to this day for that lol.

haha yeah me too.

What does one do if the piece thats broken off and still in the head doesnt give you anything sticking out enough to get say a pair of vice grips on there to unscrew it?

Since there is a nut on that stud that's already torqued down against the cam oil spray bar, it will more than likely break right at the point shown every time should you overtighten the valve cover nuts. In this case, of course, it's just a matter of taking the VC off and using the aforementioned nut to remove the stud and replace it.

So in conclusion, the Honda stud's nuts can't be overscrewed or it will break off the head.

happened to me... take the vc off.. take screw out.. put new one it.. torque it to 7 ft/lbs. thats it.

I think that everyone, who has ever worked on a honda, has snapped off a VC or cam cap bolt. Even when using torque wrenchs, some of them can be easy to snap.

but no one has ever done it twice
