I have a 1992 hatch with d15b7 and stock transmission and clutch. 136k miles and has been run HARD by previous owners

well when i got the car the clutch slipped really bad, it was almost impossible to drive. so i got another motor and transmission. (havent installed it yet, no time)

anyways, the longer ive been driving on this clutch the better it seems to get. When i first got the car it would get about 25 mpg with a mix of city and highway driving.

Now after having the car a month of so, the clutch doesnt slip as bad, still slips, just not horribly. and since this last fill up i got almost 40 mpg.

How can a clutch go from slipping this bad, to hardly slipping at all? i never drive the car hard, because i cant have anything crap out on me, its my dd. so my driving habits didnt change

I still plan to swap everything out but i was just wandering. (by all means im not complaining about it )

It has a 11.7 gallon tank.... about 1.7 is backup so you are driving 400 miles on 10 gallon which it should be with mostly highway some city. I have a d16z6 and i get about 40 high, 34aveg. As long as you keep the R's down you will get better gas milage. the slipping clutch most likely was making you keep you rpms higher so you burned more gas. Just be happy you getting good gas milage.
