90 crx si cd player install
Ok, I got my car with no wire harness or stereo. I have since replaced the harness, and attempted to install a cd player, and it appears there is no where for the thing to mount! There looks like there is a bracket near the back part of the din, but I dont think the cd player goes in the far. I was just as the junk yard, and unfortunately, they have no crxs. But I looked at the hatchs that were there and could'nt see much difference(they were all missing radios). Anyone know if i'm missing a bracket or something, or do I just need to go to walmart and get the stereo installation kit thingy with all the plastic pieces? Thanks!!
Can you take another pix or two of the opening where the HU goes, it is not clear in the link, or does the HU mounting sleeve fit properly into the din opening.
All 90s Honda/Acura used a "rear mount" mounting system, 2 8mm ISO machine screws through a lip on the rear of the stock HU into a rear support mounting bracket. It can be seen here on the 93-95 Civic... http://www.installdr.com/Insta...7.pdf an aftermarket HU will not reach the stock rear support mounting bracket, and an "L" bracket is needed, mounted to the back of the HU, [with the bottom of the "L" level with the bottom of the HU] and even though the stock HU is mounted with 2 screws to the left and right of center, Honda, in their great wisdom, also put a hole/slot in the center of the rear support mounting bracket.

So, I need an L bracket? Any idea where to locate one? I've checked Warlmart for an installation kit, talked to some radio installation guys who said I need the side brackets off the original radio(doe'snt sound right....since there is nothing on the sides of the console to mount to) and I've come up with nothing. I've even swarmed the junk yards for something that would help and I've found nothing. I appreciate the info and all the help!

were is the sleeve to the radio that you are installing? Slide the sleeve in place. Bend the tabs to mount the sleeve. Slide in your new headunit. Call it a day. There is no need to buy a kit for the older crx and honda civics.

Ditto the above, no kit needed, and the pix shows what I wanted to see, [mounting trim intact].
As for the "L" bracket, I just make mine out of back strapping, any car audio shop should have some, it looks like this... http://www.scosche.com/scosche...D=BS9
Use a piece of it to make your "L" bracket, install HU mounting sleeve, measure from the outside edge of the sleeve to that center slot, [should be about 6.25" - 6.5"] that the new pix shows 2 of on the rear support bracket, then measure from the lip of the HU, [that part that would sit up against the sleeve] that same distance and make sure there is a hole in the bottom of the "L" bracket at that point, so you can install a nut and bolt or speed nut and screw to attach the "L" bracket, [that is attached to the back of the HU] to the rear support bracket, [bracing the back of the HU to the rear support bracket] makes the HU rock solid in the dash, [CD pack assembly suspension can function properly] also grounds the chassis of the HU to the car, all good.
