Is it difficult to install a CD deck into a 5th gen Prelude??

I am looking at a JVC KD-SX990. 200 watt, mp3, etc. seems pretty sweet

But I dont want to pay them $50 to install it, if all i got to do is connect some wires.

Is it difficult to install? and is there any websites than can have diagrams to help install?

 

Definitely install it yourself. All you need is a wire harness and dash kit. The wires on the harness and the cd player should be colored coded, just splice them together. The dash kit should come with instructions. Each name brand is different. To get the stock CD player out all you have to do is pop the interior molding off from around the ac controls and cd player then take out the four screws holding the bracket for cd player and the 2 screws holding the cd player to the bracket (you will need to reuse the screws and bracket). The only prob me and my friend ran into is that we need to make slots in the bottom of the kit to keep the cd player from sliding out. it should only be a 10 min job if you dont need to modify the kit.

sounds like an excellent place to start my very first mod. I am reading on other websites that new cars are usually ISO wiring and only require to unplug the 8 pin connector. But i havent heard of the wire harness that you mentioned and the dash kit?

 

Just go to AutoZone or Pepboys and buy a radio wire harness. You don't need a dash kit, you just take your stock radio out, and place your new cd player in its place
