Default catalic converter

hi i have a 98 prelude,and its making some noises inder the car when the car is on ,it sounds like its the exhuast,so i when underneath and looked,it coming from the catalic converter,i thought it was the cover that cover the cat con,but i dont thomk its that,so does the cat con make noise when its bad,is it bad?the sound is like a little rock rattling agaist it,someone come across this before please help it loud and annoying.thanks

if the cat makes clunking noises from the inside when you hit it, and its definitely not the heat shield, then the cat is bad cuz the honeycomb inside has fallen apart.
