So I'm late for work. It's raining. I get down the road about a mile and all of a sudden its really hard to shift. I think...**** I just blew my transmission. I turn off the road and can just get it in each gear. Normally it shifts really smooth.
Its a 91 CRX Si with a6 and si tranny with app. 240k miles on the tranny.
I just changed the transmission oil out earlier this week. I used 10w-30 motor oil if that makes a difference. Never had a problem with it before.
I managed to get it in 1st and drive home. Throughout first and second the car hesitated 99% but once I got in 3rd it drove fine.
Any ideas? I doubt my tranny oil leaked out. It could possibly be the clutch cable even though the pedal felt fine. Otherwise I have to pull the tranny and see why its rough shifting.
Please help.

well you got a problem with it now.
you really should have used honda MTF or any other tranny fluid. regular oil does not have the friction modifiers needed for gears.

I probly only ran it for a few days with the 10w30 in there. Do you think if I drained the oil and put in the pennzoil synchromesh I'll be alright? I hope thats all it is cause i'm on a search for trannies and beater cars now.

true, but I gotta give it a shot. otherwise the crx is getting parked and i'm doing a full restoration and I gotta find a beater.

check the linkage if is hard to get in gear. if the clutch was screwed up then it would grind when u go to put it in gear. i would stay bushing and linkage. but the tranny could be screwed as well.

no. I can't be 100% that the tranny is shot just because I drove it for a mile, but if it was a gradual thing over a few days it could be on its way out. Not a huge loss as it has 240k on it. First things first, I'm gonna change the oil out and check everything else. If its shot, I'm parking the car and buying a beater.

i'm almost positive that its teh oil I put in there. It was kinda sketchy going in and I'm not 100% on how much is in there. I've been keeping my eyes out for a beater anyway so I can park the crx for the winter but this caught me by surprise.
my linkage is good and I have poly bushings.

how come the factory manual, and every dealer I have asked, says regular oil is what is used and the honda fluid is just the same only $$$$
I am running mobil1 10w-40 and have no complaints

After I drained the regular oil out and figured I had no 1st or 2nd gear, I started playing with the shifter and just slammed it into 1st. After that it felt fine so I filled it up with 2 pennzoil synchromesh quarts and It's been driving fine since. I'm just waiting for it to crap out on me even though it doenst make sense for it to in the first place.
