Making your own shiftlinkage pin pressing out tool?
I wanted to know if anyone has made a custom tool out of bolts and nuts to press the shiftlinkage pin out of the tranny and linkage? I am helping a friend taking out his shiftlinkage out of his 91 civic hb and can't seem to get that damm linkage pin out. We have used a torch and liquid wrench nothing seems to work. We pounded on that sucker with a 5 pound hammer and pin punch for hours and the pin hasen't moved. I have taken my shiftlinkage pins out with not much problem on my car but his hb is putting up a fight. He is gettting a new tranny and needs to take the shift linkage off. We ended up just taking the tranny out of the car with the linkage still on there. So we still need to take the pin out of tranny to take the linkage off. I was thinking that maybe if we used a bolt through the pin and had like some other peice between the bolt and this peice would rest on the outer rim of the pin and then thread the bolt through a nut on top of the linkage of some sort and this may press the pin out if setup right? Has anyone done this and if so I need to find out what bolts nuts and washer to get sizes? Not sure if this will work but its an idea. thanks for any help
Using a pin punch will just cause it expand inside there. I used a 6mm non-tapered drift and busted that pin right out of there. The key is to use something that does not taper towards the end. You need something that will put even pressure all around the pin as you hit it.

Actually I made a mistake it wasn't a pin punch I was using. I was acutally using a center punch and it was hitting right on rim of the pin not tapperd, but you are correct something tapperd will not work well. Whats a 6mm drift? Where do you buy that at? Thanks for your reply appreciate it
I used a square head screwdriver (propper name????). The head went inside the pin and caused it to stay in place, and the stem (holds the little square head) was just the right size to cover the rest of the pin. Used a hammer to punch it out. Worked for me, but you have to find the right screwdriver. Hope this helps...

Seconds on the screwdriver. It was a pain getting it out. When doing my ZC I spent more time on that than on anything else. Its 8mm across if that helps.
Don't get too frustrated on it. It was actually the last thing I got out before dropping ( alot easier than lifting) the motor and tranny.

Yeah as an edit to my last post it was an 8mm drift or non-tapered punch. Let me see if I can find a pic of one. They look like these:

See how they don't get thinner as they go towards the bottom. I just placed it on the rim of the pin and hammered away and it popped right out the top. Once you get it going it gets easier.

I tried to drill it out. It dulled the cobalt bit in about 20 seconds and 1/8" of material was all I'd taken out. I had the best luck with a good fitting flat head screwdriver and some PB Blaster.

use one of the bolts that bolts the ac bracket to the block. it's the PERFECT size.
i couldn't get mine out for **** so i called HASport and they suggested this, and after one tap, the damn pin came right out.

Thanks everyone for your ideas and thoughts. Got the damm pin out with some major pounding and yelling. I used a center punch forgot which size but fit very well and pounded away and finally came out. Also the transmission was pulled out of the car with linkage still connected by the pin. The pin was hammered out with the trannny outside of the car. I had alot more room to swing at the pin. I hammerd the pin downard opposed to upward. Thanks for all the responses
