Default My poor motor...new compression numbers!

These are my new numbers
no throttle
cyl 1 170
cyl 2 120
cyl 3 190
cyl 4 182

wot
cyl 1 180
cyl 2 178
cyl 3 190
cyl 4 188

These were my numbers half a year ago
wot
170
170
168
180

------

Ok now whats weird is that cyl 2 - 120 - was so low the first time with no throttle, then after driving around for a few minutes i remembered about WOT so i went back and did it again and got a great number 178. So out of curiousity, i wanted to see what it would be with no throttle again and i got 165 with NO throttle, when 5 minutes ago i got 120. When i was pullin 120, i retested 3 times to make sure i wasnt ****** up.

Whats up with the change in cyl 2?

Cyl 2 is also where my valves are tickin incredibly loud (one or more)...

Its also strange that my compression is better in every cylinder, and my car is way the hell slower than it was, by about 1.5seconds in the 0-60. Its about 50 degrees hotter outside, so i wonder if thats why.

i would say you prolly got blowby the first time due to the cylinders and rings not being warmed to operating temp. (this is one of the steps in the official procedure) you're the one who is all about seafoam i believe so you prolly dont have any carbon otherwise i might suggest that. if you did all the tests at operating temp then i dont know what to say.

im kindof stumped on the cyl 2 being so low the first time around, but since you aren't even supposed to do the test with the throttle plate closed it could just be due to that. i mean if you do the throttle plate closed method the only air that can be put into the cylinder to compress is what comes through the fitv and iacv (correct me if im wrong).

still leaning towards the engine not being fully warmed up the first time around, i did a test with no throttle on my cold b16 and got 150 all the way across, then i did it cold with wot and got between 170 - 190 all across so the throttle makes a big difference.

IACV doesnt really get air unless its going through the manifold already same with FITV (Fast Idle Thermal Valve)

You numbers look find to me. Looks like a messed up valve adjustment due to them being close but different at the same time. Do a valve adjustment, warm up the car and another WOT test and see what you get.

I'm thinking carb build up too, change those rings and then go VTEC OUT!

Change those rings? like imma just pull my motor and change my rings in a days work in my apartment complex parking lot with no prior experience doing that...

Im gonna seafoam one final time before i change my seals.

What is with the cyl 2 change tho?

Ok,

You do the test with wot. That is how you get air into the chamber to gete compressed. Doing it with no throttle is wrong. So as long as its constant at wot, you have no problems.

Why does everyone says its OK if its consistent. If you read my OP you would see that it was not consistent. Secondly, i find it hard to believe that everything is AOK just because every cyl is sucking with low compression numbers and happen to be "consistant".

What the process to restore my compression back to what it should be. hone + rings?

Valves adjusted correctly? Maybe somebody screwed up when they did your #2 cylinder and they're not dead on, giving you shitty compression.

yes, very important to adjust valve lash! you can bend valve's if it is bad enough, Normal honda maintance, need's to be adjusted every 30k

They are telling u the numbers are ok, because when u did the test the RIGHT way they are fine. If u still think there is a problem do a leak down test, that will tell u if it your rings or valves.

I just did my valve lash a week ago. I am going to recheck it.

perhaps your doing things improperly...if you did the compression test at cold temps and TB closed, perhaps you couldent follow directions on the valve adjustment....did you do it with the motor COMPLETELY cold? (as in, overnight cold)
