Tools/Press jigs that you use to install bushings/take out bushings
I'm going to replace a few bushings on my EG & I remember last time I tried attempting this it ended up in a bent LCA. This was like... 4 years ago?
I was wondering what kind of tools you use to get out the bushings. More specifically I will be replacing the front LCA bushings & the rear LCA bushings. I have a press, so any kind of jig or a way to set up the LCA w/out bending it, please share the info.
Thanks,
Pete

i use sockets.
did you put an oversized socket (or any kind of cylinder) UNDERNEATH the bushing for it to fall into and support the LCA? i dont see how you could bend the LCA if you did it properly. youre NOT supposed to support the LCA at the ends while trying to push down on the bushing.

I had several things I tried. I used sockets, bar, extra stuff lying around.
I did support the ends of the lca, that's the reason it bent, then, huh. I tried to support it @ the ends & then have the middle supported so it wouldn't slide around.
*sigh*
Well, hopefully round 2 will be a lot better.
Thanks Tyson.

I have used this method and it works but it gets nasty burning the rubber and it takes a good bit longer than using a press.

1. drill small holes thru the rubber until the inner sleeve can be hammered out
2. use a sazwall to cut thru the outer sleeve but do not cut into control arm
3, tap out old bushing
4. freeze new bushing for an hour or two
5. heat control arm with propane torch for a few seconds
6. tap frozen bushing into place with large washer over the inner sleeve and resting on the outer race. making sure it's square.... use a socket and hammer to drive the bushing in
i've done this on at least a dozen bushings over the years. works every time without fail or damaging the new bushings. no need to pay a machine shop with a press to do it, either

that isn't a bad idea just hack saw them in half ( you will have to put the blade in first then put the handle on)
