bitch pin replacement
You can, and actually alot of people do it.
However, you will get play in the shifter. The bitch pin is made to counteract that. Do it if you want, but you'll replace it for the better driveability eventually.

getting it in is easy, getting it out is just alittle harder, just buy a flat tip punch, theres one i forget the size that is a perfect fit. you cant use the pointed punch because then the pin will just expand and it will be harder to get out

the punch is like 1/4" i think. the trick is, put the front of the car on jackstands as high as you can, so you can swing the hammer hard. it took me a while to learn, but you just gotta beat that bitch pin into its place.
Someone on here made a bitch pin removal tool with a c-clamp. Let me see if I can find the link.

it takes literally 10 seconds with an air chisel and an 8mm punch, i usually just use a conical attachment on the chisel and it works like a charm.

The "bitch pin" is called a roll pin. Get a roll pin punch (sold at your local Sears). Once you have the right tool it takes very little effort to get the pin out and re-install it. I usually TAP it with the hammer instead of beating on it.

I bought one. It broke the 1st time I used it. The C-clamp wasn't strong enough for the almighty bitch pin.
