Default Bleeding Brakes Question

Ive already done a search but no one seems to have posed this question: When do I know I have flushed out all the old fluid?

This is in the context that I am refilling the master cylinder everytime I:

1. Apply pressure to brakes
2. Loosen screw, bleed fluid, tighten screw (while pedal is still down)

So obviously at some point, all the fluid exiting the brakes is new fluid. How do you know when this is?

thx

when it looks like new fluid. Pour it in a clear glass and observe. If you still see the contaminants, then keep flushing.

There is nothing further you can do short of sending a sample in for chemical analysis.

Any idea of how much fluid is in the system? or how many "pumps then hold" it requires to flush out one corner?

Also, do you just refill the master cylinder after finishing each wheel or everytime you allow brake fluid to leave (several times per wheel)?

Just FYI, ATE makes their brakefluid in 2 different colors (blue & gold) for this very reason. You just pump til the color changes.

Add whenever the fluid mark approaches min.

if you get tired of the pumping and the two man brake bleeds

i use a powerbleeder. no mess, no pumping of the brakes, and i dont have to keep yelling to the other person to HOLD THE PEDAL DOWN!!!

I have this bleeder, and it would be ok but the adapters are garbage! They are made of plastic, and they bend and do not hold pressure on most Honda resevoirs. At work we have several units, that use billet adapters. I am sure a person could modify a good billet adapter to work with this. Then it would be a good effective setup.

How old is your Motive unit? Last time I spoke to them they had revised the cover after complaints. I want to try one.
