Default REF! :(

Yesterday I was pulled over for exaust mod.. and the cop told me to pop my hood! right before asking me if i had any mods under the hood.. Told him I only had exaust and headers, I then poped the hood and he started looking. I have a jdm d15b in my 1993 cx civic hatchback, he seen that the cam cover was off and he said that, that was illegal and that so where the headers because of exaust fumes, I guess he didnt notice the motor, being that its single cam. Anywho he then gave me a fix it ticket for the exaust and he said that i would have to take my car to a certified REF to check out the car.... i guess for the headers I NEED HELP! what should i do! ;(

Was the ticket for the headers or the exhaust? Put on a stockish muffler, first to pass in front of a ref, and 2nd to keep a lower profile so this doesn't happen in the future. Then if the ticket states that you had "illegal" headers (which shouldnt matter) put on a stock one that you can find for cheap on the market place here.

So i wont have to do nothing about the d15b, it being single cam at all so it wont matter just put the stock stuff back on?

Sucks man...I say just try to find a stock cx motor asap.I worry about this all the time.I have no stock motor either, but I'm thinking of investing in getting my car ref'd soon as I have time and investing in a stock cx motor, just in case.Just curious, but what kind of exhaust do you have.

you from cali right?...if you are they check the motor. the motor has to belong in the car or you have to have everything to pass emissions. just as if it was in the original car. hope this helps

If the ticket is for your exhaust only then the ref will not smog your car he will just do a db test to see if it under 95 db, but if it for your header too then the Ref will smog your car and do a visual test on the motor. Good luck

dude, u'll b fine with that motor passing....i got sent to the ref too in my 93 civic coupe with a jdm d15b and the ref guy didn't care. I got sent because of modified emissions (headers) and some fix it tickets here and there. I put on my stock parts back on, took the dam smog test again and passed with flying colors. As long as your car can pass smog then that motor will be fine.

I say, just put the stock parts on and go to the ref and see what happens.
