Code 9 after hard shifting.. seached and checked all the wiring.
Well tonight my check engine light turned on for the first time in a while
.
It happend as i was shifting from 1st to 2nd at high rpms. As usual it chirped the tires and got wheel hop. I noticed the rpms would drop real low then go right back up when idleing. I pulled into a gas station to check it and it read code 9. Now I understand its the cylinder postion sensor, but where exactly is that located.
Is it possible that the sensor could have moved around from the wheel hop? it the sensor inside the distributor? I have check all the wiring at the ecu and by the distributor. Do i need to test the Ohms form the terminal. Any suggestions tips ideas. Anybody had the code before? if so what got rid of it for you?
thanks HT

1.) no such thing as a "cylinder position sensor": it's either a "crank position sensor" or a "cam position sensor". My money's on the former.
2.) the location depends on the motor. The Z6 has one in the dizzy and the Y8 has one in the timing belt area.
3.) next time you ask a question, provide us with enough information to answer it, genius.

i looked up code 9 it says cylinder potion sensor *** clown..and it is inside the dizzy with two other sensors so nexty time know what your talking about GENIUS
its a 97 civic dx with a 97 ls swap... enough info??? its neither the crank nor the cam sensor...

Code 9 - No. 1 Cylinder Position Sensor
It's the third sensor in the dist., and it detects the position of the No. 1 Cylinder, as the base for the Sequential Injection. It can also be located on the camshaft of DOHC engines.

Ok I just took off the dist. the little scre that holds on the rotor had come off, it had chewed up some of the plastic inside the dist. i cleand it out put a new rotor on and tightend the little screw so it wont happen again. but i still have the danm check engine code
im stumped should i just spen a shitload on the dist. or is there any methid of repairing the sensor?

you said it chewed up the insde of the dizzy cap, maybe you should try replacing that as well.
or try to borrow a dizzy from someone and test that. (if possible) but i think you are on the right track (considering what you found with the rotor)

yeah.. prob fixed it was the dizzy cause i swaped my buddies ls and it worked fine but some how my timing jump a tooth on the intake cam so i did a timing belt while i was at it...
