sohc vtec head question... i feel like a noob all over again
how do i identify my head. Its on a mini-me swapped car i just picked up. b7 block, head ?????. It also doesnt a vtec solenoid on it and thats basically why i want to know.
Ive never seen a vtec head without a vtec solenoid..any pictures of the head? or could you read any of the stampings off the head?
how do you know its not just a straight d15b7 motor?

im sayin the vtec soleniod was removed (thats the only thing i know that goes there) so its just open right now...... im just wondering what stampings equal what head, and where they are(btwn 2&3 i think??).
nah, its a 92 lx 4 door, it was built by some guy then given to his girlfriend. She said its got some kind of diff head and i know its a vtec head, i just dont know which one and i need to get a vtec solenoid for it.

First of all, the spark plugs are going to be on the exhaust side. But after 96 they started doing that with the non VTEC heads also. Second big clue is the VTEC solenoid or absence thereof. If it's a flat smooth surface there, it's clearly not VTEC. After 1996, they started casting the year into the head above the 1st exhaust runner. I have a Y8 that says 96, an Y5 that says 98. Above the 3rd exhaust runner it's going to have a code. I have three D16Z6 heads, P08-1, P08-2, and P08-6. Both my Y5 and Y8 say P2J-3. If you have any doubt, take off the valve cover. The Y5 head is very different looking than any other head.
If you get a Y5 head by accident, consider yourself lucky. This head has the most potential of any SOHC head. Get a VTEC controller, have a custom cam ground, and basically do whatever you want. I think you could even put the Y8 cam in there. Don't quote me on that.

and like i said in the pm...just because it is a 92 model(just an example) doesnt necessarily mean the head was made in 92...it could have been cast in 91 therefore being stamped 91 but still came in a 92 car...
