i did my first non rattle can paint today..base coat was applied good..2-3 coats..but when i applied the clear the only way to get it a glossy look like cars are suppose to look, was the do heavy coats..but as i did that..some parts had drips/runs..wat can i do to get rid of the clear coat runs? help a noob

if i wet sand..will it break through the clear and hit the base?..or will it just smoothen the clear onlie? what grit?

 

More coats, less volume per coat... Spray evenly and don't rush through it...

What is the part you are pianting?

it shouldnt if you use like 1000-2000 grit sandpaper

take a razor blade and carefully shave off the majority of the run leaving just enough for you to wetsand out. put your thumb on the top of the razor in the middle and place your index and middle finger on each end of the bottom side to bend them up so you dont drag the edges through your clearcoat. hope this helps.

 

The best way to cut out heavy runs is to let it sit for a couple days, then take a razor blade and scrape vertically across the run until it's close to even with rest of the clear..Then take 800-1000 wet on a block and smooth it out...go over that with 1500 and then buff.

....btw how many coats of clear did you put on and what brand is it?

what is the pressure @ your gun. you may not be having proper atomization as well..

But yea you gotta find the happy medium between non glossy, orange peel, and runs. Somewhere in the middle you will have a nice flat glossy surface with little to know peel.

Try setting up your gun using a test panel before you spray car. (i made that mistake already)

what clear are you using? and what tip?

well yeah if you sand too much.....i made that mistake on my ej6 i just painted, sanded just a tad bit too much...sucks huh? lol

but wet sanding is a good way to make the clear look better and smoother, gets rid of alot of orange peel

wetsand, thin coats, and plenty and plenty of coats, then use rubbing compound between coats(mothers) and buff the paint. Once you have a large amount of coats, wax, wax, wax and wax.
