Does '90 CRX Si Have a Rev Limiter?
Does the '90 CRX Si have a rev limiter?
I've only redlined my CRX 3 times in its lifetime. Once testing 0-60 shortly after I bought it. 2nd time last year passing a truck that pulled out / cut in front of me on an entrance ramp - hit 7200 rpm in 2nd. A few days ago, pissed off, raging, passing all this slow traffic on the way to work (somewhere between 7200 & 7400). For some strange reason, I started revving my CRX harder after getting my ITR a couple of years ago...
I've never raced my CRX and would like to auto-x it someday (probably this summer before I possibly trade/sell it for a WRX wagon as my daily driver/ski-mobile). I've never felt a rev-limiter kick in and don't want to over-rev it auto-xing if there is none.

Yes it has a rev limiter. Don't rev it that high. It does damage to your engine. Unlike some ricers out there that think It's cool to rev the hell out of thier cars.

ive done it a couple of times when racing others and i agree it is gay and ***** up your car..to answer your question wot actually happens, the car just kinda cuts out for a second or two till the revs drop. it feels like a jerking action.
my zc has a rev limit of 8200
anyone know wot the limit of a b16a is as im performing the conversion soon and just curious????
cheers

I have a 91 civic si and it deffinetly has a rev-limiter...i took it up to redline twice accidently. The 1st time was about 6 months ago passing a swirving semi...and the rev-limiter kicked in arround 7G...the second was like a week ago and the rev-limiter didnt seem to kick in...it was really wierd. i had it up to about 7500 and it hadn't kicked in...i don't know exactly why. I didn't try it again to see if it's still doing it and don't plan on it
if anybody knows why this may have happend i'm interested in finding out

i hate this opinion stuff
i have a 91 crx si and i redline it at least once a day if not several. i've had it for a year and its over 100k. i havent had any problems (yet...). i've heard of other peeps doing the same with their hondas and they're way older than mine. i realize that over-revving can shorten the life but i was always told by people that honda's redline is the safest point to take the engine. what are peoples thoughts/experiences on this?
thanks
hope i'm not getting too off the topic

No it does not, I have a 1990 CRX Si with 300,000 miles on it and I still rev it to 10,000 RPM. I don't know how much higher it can go, but it's pretty safe to say that there isn't one. Try pulling an F1 and go to 17,000 RPM.
there is none mine has none says there is non in all stats ive seen + honda dealership says there was none in the 89 CRX Si...
I hit 7800 RPM daily on my CRX and it is still running smooth @ 200K

Maybe you have a chipped ECU?... I know that there is a rev limiter, and I have an 89 also... if you go that high everyday, I'm surprised your motor hasn't gone boom!
gee and i thought my friends 91 hb Si had a weird ECU...
ever since he bought it like 2 years ago...hes been beating the **** out of it redlining it to 7500 everytime he races and all he has is some generic intake...and that thing is fast even when it was all stock...weird...but good for him not the engine...i kinda feel sorry for it....
Keep in mind that your Tach is not overly accurate. I can wind my ZC out to the 8000 rpm mark on the tach and I know for sure that the rev limiter is hitting at 7500.
As far as I know, all factory ECUs for fuel injected Honda cars have a rev limiter. It's usually a few hundred RPMs above the rev limiter. I think the 4th generation Si is a 7200 warm and 6800 cold.
