Default Burning an assload of oil

The oil in my car burns pretty damn quick. I don't see smoke although my friend said the other day that he saw some puff out between shifts when I was driving hard. I never get spots of oil under the car but it goes through a few quarts each oil change. Usually by time I change the oil, every month or two, there is maybe a quart left. The oil light will start coming on when I turn hard then go back off.

I'm about to turbocharge the car so would like some ideas as to what I can check. I've read to check the valve seals and of course rings, what's the most common causes and what order of checks would you go in?

most common would be ring failure...and worst case would be ringlands are cracked/broken on the piston.

If you replace the piston ring that will fix the burning oil issue, just make sure to get your cylinder walls honed out before you install the new piston rings on the pistons.

how many miles on this engine?

well that would prob be the STUPID thing you could do right now. First, you need to figure out how your gonna resolve this problem because youll prob just end up blowing up your motor and destroying your turbo.

Dont let your car get that low. Dont wait until the next oil change to put in more oil! Keep adding it as you go...I dont know where your oil could be magically disappearing to, but it cant all be blowing out your exact between hard shifts.

Your best bet is to stay up late one night and check for the underwear stealing gnomes. Well actually in this situation, it would be motor oil gnomes

hmm, if you said, it doenst leak oil or burn oil.. only when you shift hard. I would Have to ask how often are You getttin on it? in your car.. cause thats normal at high RPM's to burn a bit of smoke on a high milleage motor.. and i would think before i boosted it, sounds like you got some weak rings.. and that boost is gonna make it WORSE!

Yeah I'm not dumb, I was going to turbo it in a couple weeks until we noticed this oil burning problem.

The engine only has 156k miles on it and I really don't abuse it. Redline is rare and usually i shift 3500-4500. Just surprised me that it would have worn out rings already and my del slo had over 200k miles with no issues.

I'll most likely just replace the rings, bearings, seals, gaskets, hone it, and it should be fine.
