Right now im going for an Hp of around 200 as my goal. Right now there is a d-series d15b7 in there and I have a few ideas but I need to know out of….

1. My D15b7
2. B16 Series
3. B18 Series
4. D16z6

Which one of these can better handle a custom made turbo set up with keeping the car eligible as a daily driver and why? Any help with this will really help me make my decision on which way I need to go with my build before I do so. Right now the play is to do a mini-me swap with turbo set up but I was looking at these other opitions as well so I need your guys or girls help with this to give me an idea. Thanks in Advance.

 

200 is doable on any of them. Stay with the one you have, cheaper that way. .. D16Y5 FTW

 

If all you want is 200 HP, keep the D15 and boost it.

 

Ok now I ask this, mini-me items to get I have the list of the stuff but where is the best place to get the head? Ebay or somewhere like that, need a dependable one so need to be careful I guess... and if you read my other thread I have on here and answer the question I have about the mini me and timing belt it would be helpful.

its not really worth the money to do a mini me...if you stumble upon a good deal, than im all for it...but otherwise i wouldnt do it....and about the original question. if your goal is only 200hp, you could get pretty close to that with just boosting your engine right now...now if you ever plan on getting more power than that, i wouldnt waste any money on a turbo, and just save to swap the engine

 

Well this is my question, with boosting this current engine. Will the engine still be dependable with that power on it and also what are some things I need to do to this engine before I boost it to get it ready?

 

I would swap the engine for engine life anyway.

But the d series will do fine, a mini me is kind-of a waste of money. Just restore the head if it's a high mileage engine and boost it. Piece together a homemade turbo kit. Buy an intercooler and have a shop do the piping. Get it tuned and get a decent fuel mapping system, and you'll have a quick DD and kick some *** too.

 

Check to make sure it runs good and everything checks out ok before adding a turbo. Routine maintainence stuff mostly. A leakdown test is always a good idea too.

There's no sense putting a turbo on something that's about to die.

Yes it is, if its a D-series. Just drive it until it blows up. Then get another D for next to nothing. Repeat.
