Tachometer is lagging behind actual engine speed....
when my motor is up around redline, the tach only reads around 4-5k rpm. my motor is running fine. no bouncy idle, no misfiring etc. i have an Apex EL II tachometer. anyone have any ideas? is there a test to see if the tach is getting a good signal? i checked the ground and it seems ok. the tach was working fine up until monday afternoon. motor is 95 H22A, car is 92 Civic HB CX.

By chance is there a switch or anything to switch it to 4 cylinder, 6 cyl or 8 cylinder modes? A friend of mine had a shift light in his car and one day it stopped lighting up like it was supposed to , come to find out he accidentally changed the setting on the back of the shift light to like a 8 cylinder lol

no there's no switch. i just ran hookups straight to the battery and tach signal wire and its still lagging so it looks like the tach itself is messed up. there goes $230 down the drain.

ohh okay thats my bad Terry, I get lazy and dont read the full posts like I should.
Do you have a EX/SI cluster you could swap in to check your tach signal? OR can you datalog?

Mine is doing the same I have the Autometer Autogage tach, I connected the revs wire to the factory tach. Its fine at low revs, between 1-2.5k, but after that it starts lagging. When I hit redline on the tach reads 7500rpm instead of 8500rpm.
I have been told to wire it straight to the dizzy to get a more accurate reading. Does anyone know which wire this is in the engine bay?
