Weird sound when crusing!! HELP!
I got a 06 type S and when i'm crusing at around 70-80.. i hear a weird whistling/humming sound. With people in my car, no one can tell where it is comming from. If i drop the car into neutral while its humming, it does not go away so i doubt its comming from the engine. I have no mods cept an injen cold air but the sound was there before i put it in. The tires are properly inflated as well. Any one got any ideas?? Thanks in advance for your help!
perhaps not the problem, but i had a similar problem with a car i owned and it had to do with the seal on the window. do you hear it with the windows up and the windows down. like i said it may not be the case but it happened to me with a car that was 2 years old
i think i tried to roll the windows down to see but at 70-80 MPH.. its kinda hard to hear anything.. haha.. but i'll try that again next chance i get to drive that fast... Thanks man
The car is still fairly new so this typically wouldn't be the problem, but have you considered a faulty wheel bearing? The sound you are describing fits the description perfectly. I had a 94 Accord and this happend. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me, until a friend of mine took a ride in the car and had the problem diagnosed within the first minute of driving! We replaced the front/passenger bearing and all was well. Did you buy the car new or used? Warranty?
It does not change pitch. Its the same kind of tone every time. I still have warranty but right now i'm at school and there is no acura dealership around me. How can i tell the wheel bearing is bad? Is there any kind of tests i can do my self to find out? I'm going to put on a coilover set up as soon as it comes to me in the mail, is it possible to test the wheel bearings then? or do i not even need to take anythign appart? Thanks for your help guys and sorry for the late reply.

I'd make the time to take it to a dealer to have the bearing replaced(if that is determined to be the problem)before you install any suspension modifications.
This will save you the headache of them telling you the suspension mods caused the problem.

true... Id like to see if there is a way i can tell if it really is the wheel bearing or not. The dealership i go to back at home dont really care much about mods. they have worked on alot of my friends cars that have been ALOT more modded then mine and never asked bout their aftermarket parts. Thanks for all your help though.
Anyone know how to tell if a wheel bearing has gone bad? or any other possible causes of the problem?

That is wierd, I had the same problem, i just bought an Acura Rsx type-s. One day when i was driving back from school on the freeway, my music was on and I realized and noise that wasn't in the song. It was a loud pitch but after that i brought it to the dealer and forsure we test drove it and ofcourse it went away. It hasnt came back since then, so if it comes back tell them it could be a faulty wheel baring? okay
thats exactly what happened to me. I was driving to school and i heard a noise that didnt sound right frome the music so when i turned down the volume i could hear the humming/whistling.. I really cant tell where it is comming from and it only happens between 70-80 MPH. Next chance i get, im bring it into the dealership.
I have the same problem with my 06 Type S since I bought my car back in july 14 2006 with 7miles on it and now I have 2500 miles still with the same noise. Dealer told me it was nothing not to worry about it.
It's the seal on the top of the windhield. Next time you take the car out and it starts push out on the windshield. The noise will go away. Or better yet tape the top of the windshield seal up with painters tape and hit the highway. listen carefully because you shouldn't hear ****! Pull off the highway remove the tape and hit the highway again. Your noise should be back.
My honda Jazz (Fit) got the same problem!!!

I just cleaned under the seal at the top of the windshield where it meets the body/roof and so far the noise has gone away. I have heard that you can hit it lightly with a heat gun and that will fix it too. However, as of the other day the noise was gone.
Sent for a service today and guess what??
they technician straight away say that is the bearing problem, the identify which wheel is the sound coming from and then remove and replace a new bearing , now the sound has gone!! and guess what its all free of charge because the car is still under warranty! cool!
Gaz!
