Default panasonic battery?

battery is dead and i was wondering if anyone went to a certain store to get the panasonic battery that came with the itr. typical stores like oreilly, autozone, pep boys, dont seem to stock the panasonic but they have other brands. i'm partial to the diehard batteries found at sears if i couldnt locate a panasonic batt. anyone know what the itr d51r batt costs at a dealer, i hate to go there, but can if the part isnt outrageous.

oh, and yes i have considered a lightweight battery like a odyssey pc680, just dont know if i want to spend the money and start playing the guessing game a year or two from now on if it will crank one morning.

List price is $70.40. You can try contacting Len at Baranco Acura for a better deal, although shipping costs on a battery might negate the price difference.

I was looking for a Panasonic battery but went with a Die Hard Gold instead I really liked that Panasonic one and at the time was told I could not get them in the US and those were only from the JDM factory.

I guess you can get them but maybe at that price, might want to check the Die Hards because of warranty?

If you get it installed at Sears, make sure you keep the battery cover. My tech was throwing it away but I snuck it back in the car and had it reinstalled by a friend.

When my battery needed replacement a year ago, I shopped around for a stock-size battery (group size 51R) with a long warranty (the longer the warranty, the better the quality battery). I tried the dealer, an independent mechanic (who carries Interstate), Autozone, Sam's Club, Costco, etc. All the prices were in the $55-110 range except Costco, where they had their house Kirkland brand (battery made by Johnson Controls, a leading high-quality battery manufacturer who also makes the Optima batteries) for $36.99 with a 100-month warranty. So that's where I got it. Costco

I got some good tips for installing it in this topic.

well, i got the battery from the dealer 85 bucks. plus i got an oil change while i was there and they washed and vacuumed it for me. yeah, i should have shopped around, but the dealer is right off the hwy on my way home and my car almost left me stranded before work this morn and thats not good. so chalk one up for the stealer. only good news was there was a minty nsx parked by the service door black on black. very nice.

The panasonic battery is a "jdm" battery and cannot be found in the USA.

Sometimes convenience doesn't allow for shopping around. I hear ya.

Thanks to my university's library, I had the chance to read up on Consumer Report's review of car batteries.

The battery that came in first was Napa-specific battery. The second was the Duralast battery from Autozone. As for the others, I don't remember, nor really care

Battery sales in the US must differ from battery sales here in europe, here you choose your battery and choose how long a warranty you want on it, the longer you want the dearer the battery. You can buy them without warranty or up to 3 years (i think) I usually just get 1 years warranty as inevitably i'll loose the receipt and void my warranty if i choose a longer period.

Yes, it's different here. When you buy a battery, it comes with a warranty of specified length, at no extra charge. Most brands sell batteries in a variety of ratings (e.g. cold cranking amps, or CCA) and price ranges. The more CCA the battery has, the higher the price and the longer the warranty.

For example, Autozone sells three batteries for the ITR:

Valucraft - 410 CCA - $45.99 - 6 year warranty
Duralast - 425 CCA - $54.99 - 7 year warranty
Gold-Duralast - 500 CCA - $75.99 - 8 year warranty

Not for our cars. The article (in the new, October 2006 issue) rated batteries in several group sizes. The results you quote above are for group size 65 and 35. The results differed for the other group sizes tested (Sam's Club battery first for group size 75, Interstate battery first for group size 24/24F, Wal-Mart battery first for group size 34/78). And results from one group size did not translate to other group sizes; for example, the Sam's Club battery that came in first for group size 75, came in last for group size 34/78. They did not test group size 51R, the group size for the Integra.

It's also worth noticing that the EverStart battery sold at Wal-Mart came in in the top three of every group size tested...
