Default What my service advisor 'advised' me after my oil change.

I almost laughed in his face at this, but I managed to just smile.

He comes in, names all the stuff they checked and did as courtesy.. blah blah... then he says "Have you ever noticed any black sut on your tail pipe?" and I say yes then he proceeds to say " I think that would clear up if you kept the revs down a bit more, and used better gas, no racetrack or walmart... I suggest Chevron or Shell"

I was thinking "keep my revs down??! HA! I DRIVE AN SI BEEECH"

As for the gas... wtf, I've read a lot about gas, and so far I have been under the impression ALL GAS (within its octane) is the same, the refineries don't make different gas, its the distributers who add their additives to it that make it different. Now, if this is true, how is anyone elses gas necessarily 'bad' gas? Why should I pay 20 cents more a gallon at shell for "V-Power" ... please.

mine has the black soot too and i dont rev it too high yet (because of break in mileage) and i do use mostly shell or BP gas.....so thats BS because all exhuasts do that....but i belive Shell puts alot of additives in their gas, or at least they say they do

wow that guy is retarded. I do wish though that there was a way to get rid of that. I washed the Si the other day pretty good and it didn't go away completely. Not that it matters, cause it builds back up pretty quick. oh well...

Just clean it more frequently. All ya gotta do is take a cloth of paper towel and simply wipe it off, it shouldn't build up and stick. I rarely wash it, but every once in a while I'll clean just the pipe itself. Always comes off easily for me...

the main reason it is black is because the si runs extremely rich

They run lean like every other ULEV Honda sells now. Most likely the more than average soot you have on the SI is from the added fuel they add on decel for the sport burble/pop sound in the exhaust and the fact it does run slightly rich till it's warmed up.

Carbon & water = bi-products of combustion ... the build up is just a little bit of carbon escpaing from the tailpipe, has nothing to do with the way you drive/gas. i've ran vpower ever since i bought the car, on everytank and still get the build up on the tip... plus i drive like a little old lady most of the time

Oh yeah, Shell's V-Power is specially formulated for Vtec engines. Come on everyone knows THAT!!!

use top tier gas and you should be fine (chevron, shell, 76, etc).

i suggest not to use bp because bp around here is arco which i've read numerous times that their gas sucks. thats probably why they are the cheapest around my neighborhood.

Not to ignite fumes in the air, but ever wonder where the ricer stereotype comes from?

I think it comes from extremely huge body kits, wings that could fly a 747, and underglow. Also, Fast and the Furious movies.

Actually, to get technical, LEV is etched into the SI windows... ULEV is in the lx/dx/ex
