Default turbo or swap?

hey, I've got a stock 00 civic dx. im debating on either swapping out the motor for a b series or just boosting my d16. im on a tight budget and a friend of mine says i can get turboed for about 1000. how much hp could i gain from a stage 1 turbo running 8 lbs of boost? how much of a difference would i feel from that kind of turbo? would i be able to run with SIs and GSRs? any help would be great. thanx in advanced.

I'll be the first to say it, this is appearance and cosmetic, try the performance forum as they may help you more. Personally I don't know which will give you more power, sorry

i agree with this guy.. this is a/c .. but since we're on the topic.. and im pretty much in the same position as you are..i'm going to be boosting the d.. why? because im also on a budget and i've seen lots of turbo d's walking swap'd i/h/e gsr and b16 cars.. but u gotta realize that it's not going to be reliable as much as a b series... but since ur going to be boost 8 daily.. i think you should be fine, just make sure u get ur **** tuned and dont constently boost everywhere..hope this helps.. oh i recommend a ex/si tranny and a y8 intake mani and to be safe get some arp headstuds

I'm a firm believer in the power of single cams.
For the price of a swap you can boost your single cam.
