Default LX Transmisson options?

I tryed to use the search but for some reason couldnt find anything reasonably useful right off hand. I have taken over a 97 Civic LX it is totally stock with the y7 motor. I normally deal with b-series integras. SO the Civic is all new to me. I want to ditch the automatic trans. in favor of a 5 speed. Which of the civic manual transmissons will switch over with min. problems and headaches. What I am I definitly going to need. Has anyone done this swap? Also I have heard of the mini me swap? Is this basically as I read it is Ex y8 head manifold on a y7? Thanks for the help?

get a y8 tranny if possible.... or the z6... the y8 has steel shift forks or something instead of plastic on the z6.... same for the head... the y8 ad z6 have a couple lil diffrences but the y8 should generaly be newer and obd-2 so it will go right on no problems...
