I recently purchased a 96 Civic EX. Are there any effective mods for it beyond headers, an intake and exhaust?

I/H/E is not cheap, nor is it effective.

For the money you'd spend on a decent I/H/E setup, you could be close to buying a bolt-on greddy turbo kit.

 

before u go and mod, i would do a tune up... oil change, spark plugs, cap and rotor.... etc

also, make sure the timing belt and waterpump have been changed or you may want to do that first.

 

^Great advise, yes make sure the car runs perfect before you try to make it faster.

why is it that when someone asks for opinions on upgrades the first thing people immidiately assume is that they wanna go the FI route

And why is it that 95% of the people on this site don't realize that "bolt ons" and "NA" are the same thing? An NA build is not slapping on some shitty intake and header combo and driving the car: it involves pistons and rods and balancing and headwork and huge cams - all of which is harder than a simple turbocharger installation.

And without a propper mechanic and good tune, it's less reliable

so instead of jus assuming he wants to go FI you should ask him first

then if he says na then proceed to tell him to upgrade pistons cams, etc.

same applies to FI

 

N/A tuning is not cheap and is not bolton, thus it is irrelavent to this thread.

A complete turbo kit is 99% bolt on, and will produce better power for the money.

GReddy e-manage OBD2 plug and play ......

Or just a basemap tuned ecu from phearable or kenji's ..... those run plenty reliable.
