HU install questions. 98 EK (i did a search but, couldn't find anything useful.
I picked up a new alpine head(9852) unit and ive wired the harness up and im ready to go. The thing is I want to install it in the DIN infront of the cup holders(98 EK/EJ). I searched but i couldn't find a good write up on this. I know its not a direct fit, anybody have any tips or tricks on putting the head unit in properly? Any feed back is appreciated.
it should fit in there fine. you have to take out the armrest, if you have one, and the console surrounding the cupholder and din pocket (or tape player). from there you should be able to mount the radio where the pocket was, just have to drop the wires down to plug them into your alpine.
On mine I purchased a new unit due to lack of the mounts, but with the new-used unit there were four bolt openings (two on either side) that holds the factory cd/tape player. All I had to do was slide the deck in, line up the deck with the screw holes and use the supplied screws to screw it in. The wiring harness and antenna should be able to be re-routed with out any troulbe, I just pulled mine down and it that was that.
I've seen some people use the stereo's din metal bezel mounting sleeve and that works just the same as in the OE position, mount the bezel and slide the deck in. In my case tho the bezel didn't fit (might be the difference between the cd/tape player and the cubby pocket openings) and I like the hard mounted option way better.
