evo, sti killer build?...
Alright after reading tons of posts I finally created an account on this. For now i've got my daily driver a 96 d16y8 which im waiting for the head to get back from the machine shop as we speak (blown head gasket, overheating) its in for a valve job also getting it checked make sure its not warped. Anyways I was wondering what you guys would build to massacre STI's EVO's im thinking hatch but what motor tranny and ecu to start with for turbo. I've got alot of rich-boy friends who have those 30k cars and I want to slaughter them with a honda...
Stupid plan. You're going to put a bunch of money into a civic that still isn't going to be able to hook up off of the line and be a halfway comfortable daily driver. I also imagine you're not ever going to make it to the track, and are going to want to punch yourself in the face for dumping so much time/energy into something only to get skunked on a road course by an AWD car.

Actually rich people buy either. Smart rich people buy m3's
Yeah, start with an M3. That'll be way easier/cheaper and faster btw.

ok ricey, AWD cars don't always do that well at the track. The main reasons being driving skills and simply the fact that if they don't have some aggressive sticky tires the weight of the car kills it. My latest drive on a road coarse competing against EVO's and STI's was very inspiring because they were all beat down by my grocery getting street car. rt615's

If a SOHC fanboy is aching to beat evos/STi's its most likely a drag race.
Honestly I don't see you beating any evo or sti unless you're boosting like crazy and if you can drive.

X2 Don't waste your money.
Give it to me and I'll hold it for you till you learn how to spend it wisely.

hes kinda right, whats the point of bulding a car that cant put down the power to the pavement even if you make more power than the other car. It wont be good to drive daily or on a twisty track. You will end up spending way too much for it to be worth it.

If you are trying to be really fast and want to spend that kind of money, start with a car that won't make you sacrifice so much to reach your goals. maybe I am just being realistic and practical

I think he was referring to the super laggy ultra drag turbo honda setup, which would suck *** on a road course. What you are referring to is what hondas are really for!

What kind of racing? I've raced a lot of Evo's and STI's at the drag strip and they tend to fade in the back 1/8th. AWD doesn't do a thing except slow them down after 2nd gear (there are exceptions to this, but as with most things, enough $ can make anything fast) and a relatively light Civic with a set of slicks will get a good enough launch (with some practice
) that you'll be caught up and passing them by the time you get half way down the track. After I got my launch down, I could frequently get the jump on them off the tree and they never would catch up (.3 seconds is a long time!). A boosted B16 swap with a chipped ECU and good tuning should be plenty without costing too much.
For road-course or autox, go drive what you got and learn to do it well. From what I've seen a good driver in a mediocre car will be much faster than a mediocre driver in a good car. After you get some seat time you'll be able to figure out what you want on your own instead of wasting $ on stuff that somebody else likes/recommends.
