suggestions for poor-man's edm tails?
Is it possible to get the ebay tails to look like the real edm tails? Has anyone tried doing this? What kind of spray paints can I use to replicate this? *puts on flame suit*

you'll probably need some kinda matte black or something to duplicate the edges that are chrome. As for the corners.....that's gonna be hard....I don't know how you can get that "pinkish" look on there without making it look totally obvious that you painted it.

yes, but you'd also be able to see a red dot in there too
So that kinda defeats the purpose

Ya know I just thought of this....bake them damned things apart and coat the inside of the outter lense with a light light pink layer of...clear something or other. You know, the material people use on the outside lense of a 94-97 teg taillight to make it look like a 98-01 tail light.

one of my friends saw that i had the edm tail lights so he wanted them too. He bought the ebay ones that you posted and told everyone they were the edm ones. They did look like the real deal at first, until I got up close and saw the bling bling plastic and how clear the corner signal was. As you mentioned earlier, if you put a red bulb in there, it does kinda look ricey. Amber bulb would probably be your best bet. If you cant find or afford the oem edm tail lights, then this is the next route to go if you're looking for that particular look. Only integra owners know about these tail lights......believe me, I've had my edm tails for the past 5 years and hardly anyone knows whats so special about them.

You can't bake taillights I don't believe, I'm pretty sure the lens has an epoxy glue of some sort. You'd have to cut them apart.

90-93 integra tails you can bake. they are super hard to pull apart without cracking, but i know a few people who pulled 92-93 tails apart to take the amber out.

yeah i think patrick might be right, especially with those ebay red/clear taillights. the glue they use for the cheaper knockoff tails isnt the kind you can bake i don't think.
but i was thinking, if you DO manage to somehow successfully take the knockoff red/clears apart, maybe you could take a few white sheets of paper or some white paper plates, a can of clearcoat, a can of transparent candy apple red and a standard model paint brush and try this:
1.) make sure both tails are taken apart first.
2.) take the can of clear coat, spray a nice-sized puddle of clear into the paper plates. enough so that it won't dry out on you so fast.
3.) take can of transparent red and spray like one or two quick spurts of red into the puddle of clear. you might need three spurts, i don't know.. sort of depends on how much clear you sprayed in step 2.
4.) take your model paint brush and quickly mix the colors together so that you get a nice clear paint with a SLIGHT tinge of red/pink. if you put too much red in it, start over with some new paper plates.
5.) once your new color is mixed, take your tail lenses and apply a nice even coat onto the inside of your blinker lenses with your paint brush. i would imagine one or two coats should do nicely.
6.) while you have the taillights apart, you might as well go ahead and try painting the outer edges of the silver housing with black so you get that darker outlined effect you see in the pic in the OP's first post. more info on doing this can be found here: https://honda-tech.com/zero...72152
7.) once your satisfied with the outcome of your lenses and reflective housings, find some way to glue them bad boys back together and your set!
i've never tried this and it might not even be possible depending on how much of a bitch it is to take the knockoffs apart then put them back togther, but i could see myself trying something like this. if i ever do, i'll definitely post pics of the results!
