Moving Throttle & Brake Pedal Closer
Hello Folks,
new to the forum but find it a w e s o m e!
Would anyone know whether the throttle and brake pedals can be moved closer together in a 2000 Honda Civic manual? That is, w/o bending the pedals. Doing so would make heel-toe shifting kinda easier, and hopefully be cheaper than buying performance pedals
Thanks!
L.

I have an automatic civic 2000 but I'm thinking you mean raise the pedal? it being so recessed you could drill a hole in the gas pedal then put a block of wood or something and bolt it on there... then uhh you can make the pedal come out and to the left more... only way I can think without Bending the pedal. Then put the old rubber from the pedal on top so your foot doesn't slip off. Cause uhhh your foot won't be resting on the floor anymore while pressing on the gas... Might be more pain than good...
Why would you want to break and downshift so late in a corner? I mean it's just street driving right? From what I understand "Heel-toe" would be used to initiate a drift, your braking which uses mostly front break system, but the rear doesn’t have as much breaking force in a regular break the rear break usually doesn’t come into play except from emergency break but it does have some force in a normal break just not as much as the front. Then you downshift by letting go of the clutch while putting gas on while the car is turning to break the rear of the car out... Seeing as the car isn't rear wheel, I don't see a practical application here. I think that's why they pushed the gas pedal back to prevent you from doing that.
Welcome to Honda-tech forums! Please read the sticky post, as they have a lot of important information keeping people from telling you to use the search button and calling you a noob. I don’t have a Rear drive car but if any of that info in the second paragraph is incorrect it’s cause I’m a noob at some of the rear wheel drive things. Good Luck man, and remember many people will tell you something is a bad idea… That’s cause it usually is… In rare cases you got to go with your heart, good luck with that too!

Heel-toe shifting is not used to initiate a drift.
Pedals are not that expensive, and it'd be much easier than attempting to ghetto rig your pedal assembly.
edit: I heel-toe on a daily basis, but I'm a ricer.

Well according to the drift bible it's one of the uses
http://video.google.com/videop...drift
not drift bible but you will see a heel-toe then gasing to keep the drift going
NOOB!!! YOUR A NOOB!!! and I AM SMARTER THAN YOU!!!!!!!!
and about the ghetto wood block idea... I said it cause I didn't care! ha Ha HA HA!!

uh yea....like what he ^^^^ said......heel toe in any car is not meant for drifting. Actually in a rwd car... NOT heal toe ing is was is used for drifting (clutch kick...or just droping it into gear raising the rpms making the engine speed up but slow down the wheels to lose grip)
to the original poster.....the easiest way to solve this problem is to buy aftermarket pedals....dont mess with bending pedals or doing something ghetto. Brakes and the brake pedal are a very important safety precaution....you wouldnt ghetto rig your seat belts or airbag would you?

know what? I've heel-toe to make a AE86 drift like takami from inital D, that's a cartoon for the non anime crowd...

In your FACE!!!! IN YOUR FACE!!!! It just burns don't it?? BURNS!!!! hah Eat some Eat some!!! You can't explain why heel-toe and drifting are in common cause you drive a CIVIC!!! I mean civics are cool, I drive one so they must be... oh yeah I got 3 crx as well. but never mind that I just PWN3D You! EAT SOME RAINBOW!!!!
the downshifting in the heel-toe is what creates the over steer!

The mugen pedals are used by many of the road race and auto x people use. They are a little expensive but they use the stock arms but replace the pedal face, they are shaped differently than stock and allow for easier heel toe action while going around the track.

Just get pedals. They're really easy to install and 99% of them do exactly what you want.

How about engine braking without ruining your transmission? Or getting in gear while decelerating so you can start accelerating at the apex?

Said one of, not the only way... ok first part why not just press just the clutch and brake at the same time instead of heel-toe to slow down, your not racing on the street and it would better prevent transmission wear, What Apex are you going to be hitting without crossing over into someone else lane???!?! What is the importance of hitting an apex on Martin Luther King Blvd????? It's usually a 4 way with traffic on both sides, why can't you slow down before hand and not run over that lady with her baby cause your in a rush?
How about you eat some jolt rainbow puke? I haven't slept for 2 days now and maybe I'm taking it out on you guys, but anyhow Jolt.. if that is your real name perhaps you do SCCA or run some autocross course... thing is I doubt it.

Thanks for the many colorful responses folks
I think I'm just going to replace the pedal plates with something like a Sparco Race model as the throttle pedal has nice left lip protrusion for heel-toe-ing (e.g.: http://www.cardomain.com/item/SPA03779AN).
Btw, I'm not sure about whether heet-toe is used for drifting although I can see how in RWD it'd have some use in initiating slippage. I use it in autocross somewhat, though for the most part gears 2 and 3 are all one needs....
Thanks again,
L.

You said you don't see the practical application for heel-toeing outside of drifting. I gave you two.

Save some brake pad. Make it second nature for the track.

You're right, I don't race on the street. The apex I'm going to be hitting is on the track. That doesn't mean I don't practice on the street. If I'm in the Odyssey I practice left foot braking, if I'm in the RSX-S I practice my heel-toe.

My Civic is a track only car. I tow it with my van to the track and then race it on the track (or autox). You better get off the innerweb and get to sleep before you make a bigger fool of yourself.
You sure are a fan of the rainbow puke, whatever that is

I'm sorry I ever doubted you jolt, great wipe out on that you tube video
Autocross is good fun except at the end when your done racing and tired as hell then have a hour and half drive back home
so yeah what was this thread about again? oh yeah pedals! Just make some shoes where the heel is extended to reach the gas then when you turn your foot left it should be even with the break pedal! ok that's just another ghetto way to do it *never tested and pretty sure won't work well*
