Default Comptech Short Shifter - How was the installation?

I should be receiving my Comptech SS for my SI later this week. I was going to take it to my shop and have them install it, but after reading the instructions on the website, this sounds like something that I actually might be able to do myself.

So my question is, has anyone (I am sure several have) installed the SS themselves? Is there anything complicated or hidden in the installation that I should know about? Is there anything that can go horribly wrong during the installation? Any tricks I should know to make the install easier?

If it is at all complicated, or require some type of special tools, please let me know. If that is the case, I will just have the shop do it. If not, I just might try to install this sucker myself.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you. I have actually printed these instructions out. These instructions make it so sound very easy. However, sometimes the published instructions leave something out, or assume something that might not be true for everyone.

My point being, I still can't figure out how to get the shift boot base and center console panel off. I have tried "pulling them up" but they don't undersnap. I am afraid if I stick a screwdriver in and pry, I am going to brake something.

I was trying to pulled these up during lunch today so I could see if my shift assembly looked the same as the pictures.

just use both hands and pull up on 1 side of the silver part where the shifter is. I just put my fingernails in between and pulled up. The center console should also just pop out pretty easily.

Took 10-15 minutes.

I was able to pull off the black and silver parts of the console by hand. Just give it some muscle.

Dont loose the blue ball. Place something on the bottom of the shifter to keep it from disappearing in the console. It is a pain to get off. Good Luck and you will love it!

I have been waiting for mine since 8/13 from Showstoppers. They just received them in today and will be mailing them out. I know Corsport was back ordered too. They probably just received theirs as well.

Can't wait to get it on.

Most important, use a towel when your taking off the blue ball. DONT let it fall cause then your install times goes from 15 minutes to nearly an hour.

Thank you all for the replies.

I will be very careful with the Blue ball. Thanks for the head-up on that part. As someone mentioned, I will try to put a towel down in the console so if it falls, it can be retrieved.

I ordered mine directly from Comptech. I order it on 8/16 and just received it yesterday. Might try installing it on Thursday night after work.

Thanks again everyone.

I just finished installing the SS along with a heavier Razo leather RA68A shifter. It all took around 15min. The blue cap took quite a bit of force so be careful. It shot out and flew into the back seat. Gotta tell ya...WOW. Best investment you will ever make. Short solid shifts. My somewhat notchy second gear is a solid "thud" now. It's a little more effort to shift due to the change in the leverage ratio but the heavier shift **** made up for it. A+++ from me!

I receive mine today or tomorrow. Did any of you regrease the blue ball? I saw previously that some used something called White Lithium (I believe).

Thoughts?

There were plenty of grease left when I took the cap off. No need to add more.

From what I've heard is that it will NOT fit on dx/lx/ex models at all. I believe they have a different linkage. I'm at work and can't reach 8thcivic.com, but I'm pretty sure it's confirmed on there.

Then I eat my words.

I guess the sure fire way is to download the install .pdf from Comptech (http://www.comptechusa.com/sto...6.pdf), and take a look at your shifter linkage to see if it is similar to the Si's. Do you have a link for Nighthawk R18, spoonlongblock, to see if there are any modifications to the install? I can't find anything on FGCoupe.com which is the only other messageboard that is open to me at work (that I know of!). If there are no modifications, then awesome!

Yeah, I know now. I'm still eating my words

Yeah, don't loose the blue cap. I dropped the SS too, but got lucky since I could just push it out of the side of the console. Otherwise, it's really easy despite tearing up your hands trying to get the freaking cap off...
