Quick Smog Questions. I searched but no answer on the dot. please help
Car info:
93 Honda Prelude
1993 JDM h22a
ALL Emission there!
NO cEL Lights
Stock Ignition timing
Ok guys...im about to take my car to get smogged finally. I say finally because Its NPo right now because i had a EGR code. But ALL FIXED now. YAY! Anways...The engine is a JDM h22 and the block is stamped with a 93 so i assume its a 1993. My car is a93 so that is covered right? I have ALL the Emission hooked up. The engine looks like it came that car. Anyways... I heard that the compression difference(10.0 vs. 10.6:1) they can tell the difference and they could fail me for that. is that true? Also when they pull up the VIN on there computer, wont it say it should be an H23? Will i fail if they notice its not? Or is that something that doesnt matter? Any info will help guys....thanks

Well, I would go off the emissions label. It say's 2.3ltr and I check the engine code on the block and 2.2 is there I would have to do more checking.
My book shows the 2.2(190hp.) and the 2.3 (160hp.)in the lude in 93
If the engine code is h22a1 you are good to go. Anything other than a1 is going to be up to the bar ref. At least in my shop.
We could help you with the emissions part and do a pre-test. That would show the ref that the car is clean and he just needs to do the visual and functional. If it isn't clean then you have a chance to fix it before you fail at the ref. and have to set up another appt.
To set up and appt. with the ref the # is 1-800-622-7733

You probably need to get your car bar'd first. Look into it.
Most smog shops will either fail you for the visual or just turn you away.

the real legit and correct way to do it since you have a swap would be to go to the REF.
BUT, you say it looks stock. it really depends on the smog tech performing it. if it looks modified, he can easily run you car's vin and see that it should be an h23. seeing that you have an h22, he can turn you away. some check, some dont. if he has suspicions then yeah, he may run it.
i usually go to a mom and pop smog place, and bring my car in with an engine bay that looks and is stock. (jdm "d15b" motor in place of a "d16z6")
in my experience in nor cal, i've never had an issue with the block code, assuming that all my swaps were dseries ---> dseries, bseries ---->bseries.
good luck, it'll work out
