Default What exactly is this? PICS inside

hey guys. I was taking off the cover for the spark plug wires the other day and I noticed that this stud was broken. What exactly is it's purpose and is it something that I need to fix ASAP? I know the nut on the stud basically holds down the cover, but is there any other purpose for it?

You can get it drilled and tapped if you need to take off the head. Otherwise, don't worry about it.

so is that stud basically stationary and mounted straight to the head? I want to take off my Valve Cover. Would it cause a problem?

lol... okay fine! haha but seriously, the stud won't turn or anything and end up in my valvetrain and eventually into the head and down into the combustion chambers? lol

running without it MIGHT cause cylinder 3 and 4 spark plug areas to leak because it holds the valvecover down aswell. just buy a new bolt from the dealership..its not expensive and VERY easy to fix..

All you need to do is replace the stud that is bolted into the cam holder. It is $4 or so from the dealership and shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to do. Running without it will cause a little bit of oil to leak from that grommet, but nothing major.

go there and tell them. they will bring up screen on the computer. and you point it out the part.

to take the stud off, buy two nuts that fit. and put both bolts on the top, then turn the bottom one.

Also underneith that nut there is a little wasther and if that little washer isnt held down by a nut then the pressure can blow it off and you will be spirting oil on ur hood, happy to me because i wasnt running a nut on any of them and it just blew on off

most of you are quickyl forgettin that this is also a cam plate bolt....if you broke it...my guess is its overtorque also and could cause premature wear on the cam....if i was you id be pullin the VC and replacing the bolt/stud and get a new grommet for the VC while you at it...
