Default in car laptop?

I havent done much resurch on this so ya forgive me if some dosne tmake since or im wrong but I have a completly performance stock civic. is their a way i can plug in a laptop into my ecu or something and moniter air/fuel, rpm's, oil temp or whatever the ecu reads... or whatever reads this crap on the laptop?

pretty much is their anything i can buy that I can moniter stuff like that on a laptop in my car? i dont know what it would have to plug into or need or if this is even possible so any info would be helpful. i dont want to adjust just watch that kind of stuff. but adjusting would be cool even though if i could i wouldent most likely as i would kill my car. but ya i just want to moniter that stuff for the heck of it if its even possible.

thanks!!!

if your car is stock then why do you want it?

You could log everything but i believe oil temp with a stock ecu. If you run something like EMS or Motec then i believe you could log everything. But these toys are not worth getting for stock cars.

so i can or cant "log" everything with my stock ECU? I pretty much just want to do it for fun. but if i have to buy some major things then i wont. i figured if its a few cables and a program why not?

You could log the following with a chipped ecu and right connector for logging along with some datalog program:

Water Temp
IAT
TPS
MAP
Injector Duty
o2 (provided you have a wideband)
Speed
What gear your in
ignition
knock
RPM

theres some other little things here and there but thats all i remember right now.

does it have to be chipped? mine is completly stock and dont want to screw with it to much.

what i want to know is... 100% STOCK 98 civic ex. stock ecu. is it possible to hook up my laptop to it without modifing the ecu?. if so what do i need? or what would i need to do to the STOCK ECU to make it work?

I log these too, with a nokia data cable and an OBDI ecu, it doesn't matter...

First off you cant log with obd2 (unless you get the LM1 wideband then the datalogger that you could buy with it (give or take 500 - 700 dollars)) cheaper way is buying a chipped ecu and converting to obd1.
