Default shifting problem, really aggrovating...

alright, long story short... I blew upmyboosted ITR motor, traded it with the lsd tranny for a nice workign gsr and tranny, kept my act clutch. Once I did the swap Iput in a fidanza short shifter. at first it was super tight and had to like force it into the gears under normal driving, so I went underneath and loosened the bolt that runs through the bearing onthe short shifter, and it loosened it up a bit and shifting seemed somewhat easier...

THen tonight, I'm out with this kid in a nice rsx type-s and we were messign around racing, 2 times in a row, when going from 1st to 2nd in a race it wouldn't go into 2nd gear at all. Super aggrovating, and it also doesn't liekt o go into 5th sometimes Ihave noticed...

anyone have any ideas/words of wisdom

When was the last time you checked/changed the tranny fluid?

BTW, street racing is really frowned upon here.

no grinds, I honestly amnot sur ehow to exactly checkt he level of tranny fluid, never done that before, I put the tranny in with my firend from his car and I know it didnt leak much at all if any. Idk whens the last tiem he checked it. I'll have to ask.

Yeah Iknow street racing is dumb I rarely do it, it wa sjust a sporatic thign youknow.

WOuld tranny fluid cause it to not go into second?! I'm leaning more along the lines of the gay short shifter

Seeing as you haven't checked or changed the fluid I think it's time you change it.

There are a number of write-ups on how to do it. I'm sure there is a link in the FAQ thread up top. Try doing that first, if you still have problems then look at more expensive/complex things.

well what kind of shifter is .. it ?

if iits happened ever since the short shifter .. its most likely that ...

but what you can do .. is uninstall it ... and then re install it ... if you have the same problem get a new short shifter .

and if you still have the smae problem... hmmm ? i dono .. just put the stock one bak on till you can figure out the problem ...

it might be the syncronizers in the tranny, basically what they are are little transitioning gears that help you have a smooth shift when going through the gears, as they get old they start to break, and especially if you race. you can still shift without the syncros, but when trying to shift fast, it wont be easy a lot of the time.....it just wont go into the gear. most of the time its not even worth fixing...id just get another tranny

ergh I'm hoping its not the synchros, I shoulda' kepy my ITR tranny somehow... I never drove the car with the stock shifter it wasn't my car in which the motor came from, but the kid is legit and did tell me it was fine, no grinds, etc...

Short shifters are very stiff when you install them because the grease hasn't had time to work its way in between the moving parts. You loosened a bolt and that was wrong. Retorque that fastner and deal with the stiffness until it loosens up on its own.

Problem solved. Product - 1, Moron Human - 0.

uhm no, I searched and it that bolt was cranked too tight, shifting is even more of a bitch, its supposed to be tightened until it hits the bracket, not cranked on.... anyways... if this helps, I never have had a problem getting it into 2nd when I'm not mashing the gas...

Lrn2Shift. If it goes in 2nd with no issues in every-day driving then theres likley not a problem with the transmission, but possibly with the operator of the transmission.

I didn't say crank it down, I said torque it: a phrase which would imply putting exactly the right amount of force into seating the fastner like you should have done in the beginning.

Goddamn, kids these days.

are certain gears harder then others?
i fixed my issue by bending my shifter, the increased angle gave it more "throw" so it was easier to push into 1/3/5
