Default transmission in eg

I'm having a problem shifting into 2nd and 5th in my 92 civic si. Is this a common problem for this civic? It seems to be extremely difficult to get into gear with the occasional grind. My clutch is probably half done. Is it the synchros?

Also, what type of short shifter would you recommend? Damn, the throws are sooo long.

Likely just low/old tranny fluid.
Else.......
2nd gear issue is from bad/worn shifter fork
5th gear issue is a bad bearing on the shafts

that could be it.. but to me it sounds like the syncros are going bad.. you can try changing the tranny fluid and see if that helps..

as for the short shifter, i have a dc sports integra gsr/itr short shifter in my car and it great.. i had a civic b&m edge shifter and it suxed.. you can find the dc sports one on ebay and some site for 60-80 bux..

I just had a prom. with my tranny and it ended up being the shift linkage, it was bent. If your tranny grinds and it pops out off gear by it self , then its your synchros.

change the bearings on the tranny at the same time do the clutch so your labor will be 2 for 1. that's what i did with my eg6 hatch when i first bought it. it was the same for me 2nd and 5th was just slipping and or grinding.

92-95 si's are known for this problem.

good luck. let me know how it turns out.

always blame the synchro's, they do everything anyways!

If you don't know, then don't post.

Thanks for the replies guys. Well, i changed the transmission oil with mobil-1 10W-30 engine oil and it did make a huge difference. The shifting is much better.

Although, 2nd gear is still a little difficult to get into when heel-and toeing downshifts. If i just drive normally into 2nd, its fine. It's just when i am driving fast and downshifting. Strange. Any ideas???

If it was the syncrho, would'nt 2nd gear just be difficult all the time? 5th gear is definitely better, so no problems there. I think it just may be a common problem with all hondas. I know S2000's have had 2nd gear problems, although mine seems to be fine so far.

Oh yeah, shifter fork seems to be ok.

I still say 1-2 shift fork is worn.
Let me say this.......I ALWAYS have a spare or two on hand for a reason.
