Should be a straight swap.

plug and play!!!! no problem as long as they're either both manual trans or both autos.

Actually, you can swap any ef guages, manual or auto. I have an auto guage pod from a 4 dr in my manual hatch. The only difference is that autos have 1 more plug that gets plugged into the back of the guage pod.

I just have a manual STD civic hatch, which doesn't even have an rpm gauge. Would I be able to put in a stock one from a manual civic or crx with an rpm gauge?

yeah it will plug right in. you might have a blue plug w/ nothing to plug into on the si cluster, but don't worry about it, it dosen't do anything. this was the first mod i did to my STD.

Yeah, I have a 91. But how would it measure the rpm without any extra wires?

THE PLUG IS ALLREADY WIRED FOR THE TACH IT JUST DONT HAVE A TACH IN THE STD CLUSTER.JUST PLUG IT IN AND BE HAPPY,LIKE THE ABOVE POST IT WAS MY FIRST MOD TO.

SIMPLE 88-89 YOU HAVE TO ADD SOME WIRES 90-91 YOU JUST PLUG IT IN AND IT WORKS WOW!

Cool, so is there anything I should remember when I pull it out of another 90-91 civic? And which models came with the tach, did the DX?

Tools/Parts
1 Si Gauge Cluster (from an 88-89 Civic/CRX if you have an 88-89 Civic/CRX, or from an 90-91 Civic/CRX if you have a 90-91 Civic/CRX) (don't pay more than $40 for one of these)
1 + Screwdriver

Instructions
First you will need to take off all the screws that hold on the Cluster Hump (the mound that encases the Cluster. There are two screws underneath near the Steering Column, unscrew those. Then next pop off the two rectangular panels at the back of the Cluster Hump, there will be 1 screw under each, unscrew those. Next pull the Hump off and forward. Reach under and disconnect the Dimmer Switch and Defroster if you can. If you cannot get the Defroster Switch off just flip the whole Hump 180* and you should be ok. Next remove the 4 screws holding the Cluster into it's mount. Then disconnect the 2 parallel plugs and the Speedometer Cable in the back of the DX Cluster.

After the DX Cluster has been removed get your Si Cluster. Plug the Speedometer Cable into the back of the Si Cluster, it makes it easier if you push the Cluster as far back as possible so there is plenty of slack in the cable for it to plug right in tight and click. Then pull the Cluster out where it is supposed to mount up. Then screw in the 4 screws that mount the Cluster into position. Then plug the two parallel plugs you pulled out before back into the appropriate places on the Si Cluster. Then place the Hump back into position or flip it to get it back in the right spot. Then put back in the screws on the top and bottom and pop the two panels back into place to cover up the screws. You should be done now and everything should function properly.

Notes
If your Speedometer doesn't work, take the whole thing apart and make sure it is connected in all the way and has clicked into place. This is very very important. If it is in correct and still doesn't work you might want to take the whole Cluster out again and take off the plastic face and get right to the needles. Rotate the needles around by hand to loosen them up if they have gotten sticky from not being used in a long time. Be careful as the needles are delicate, and also make sure they fall back into the 0mph place or else you will not have an accurate reading. If it still doesn't work you might have a defective Cluster, only buy from people you can trust.

if u get a crx cluster for ur civic, they sit different because the crx dash is different. you would most likely need the brackets and dome cover.

Sorry to steal the topic, but if somebody has a 90-91 LX 5 SP cluster that you will trade for a 88 LX 5 sp cluster I would be very happy. Email Autocratic_1st_Gen@ Yahoo.com

I had no luck in the classifieds.

My directions have pictures

Another side note, If you have a 90-91 and you're (for some strange reason) looking for white faces for your gauges, DON'T get the ones that are advertised for 88-91 civics, they're accually for 88-89 and won't fit. The ones that are listed for 90-91 crx will fit the 90-91 hatch

I found one with a tach in an 88-89 wagon, is there any way to make this work with my 91? I wanted to use this one is because it's all I can find and it's only $10.

I don't think so, I found out the whole housing on the 88-89 is flatter and I'd have to change that whole part.
