i used the b&m straight stick for my 99 Si and it does shorten the shifts nicely but being a straight stick it's to far away from me so i still have to reach all the way out to engage 3 & 5. i'm going to replace it with the b&m factory bend short shifter and replace the bushings. everything should only be like $70 for parts.

Short Shifter, doesn't mean the acctual "stick" is shorter... the acctual throw is shorter

The shifter is shorter in length. The amount of throw that the driver has to input is shorter, but the actual shifter travel is the same. Take a stock shift **** and hold it lower on the shaft. Same thing as a short shifter.

Yo dog, that don't mean ****.
D16 shifter with bushings, original stock honda OEM ****. no missed shifts
..
Get what I'm sayin?
In any event.
I'd go B&M or skunk 2 like other pple said, and agreeing with some other pple the duel bend shifter has my vote.

That's because the driver isn't used to the lesser input that he/she has to give when shifting. Hold a stock shifter at the top and go through a few gears then hold it lower near the boot and go through a few gears. You will feel a difference because you will not have to give as much input into the shift as opposed to holding it at the top. I can't even explain it very well

you are correct in saying that holding the shifter lower on the lever is going to shorten the shift, but thats not all that a short shifter does. the angle of the linkage changes which allows for a short shift as well as shortening some by a reduced height.
question on how dual bend gets it closer to you.
vs
I'm assuming in both these pics, the shifters are laying the same way, but which way are they facing? For instance, in this pic, which arrow is facing towards the front of the car?

when i had it installed, the top bend was facing the rear.

with the dual bend... when you move the top in 2 inches, the bottom actually moves like 3 inches because the bottom (the part that actually matters) is like an inch or so closer to you then the top is. its all about leverage.
IMHO don't waste your money on a short shifter. You can do a lot more to your car for it to be fast then the .001 sec. it saves you in shifting distance.

it doesn't matter which way they are facing in the picture. you want the bends closer to you.

i have a B&M short shifter and it has nothing to do with being faster or saving .001seconds, i just like how it shifts, the feel for it.
