Shif Linkage Removal
Hey guys, I'm going to be taking my shift linkage out tonite, but I have a couple questions.

The 8 mm spring pin, is it 8mm wide? or is it 8 mm long? Confused about that. And does it go through the retainer as well?
Also, about the circled green part, I'm using the helms manual for everything, but what exactly does 8 x 1.25 mm mean as far as the bolt or nut is concerned?
Thanks for all your help.

Take it out with it still attached to the transmission. Then worry about getting off of the tranny when you have free room to wack away with a big old hammer.
I wouldn't waste my time with that pin while under a car. It will just make you frustrated.
They don't call it the "b***h" pin for nothing.

Would you have to unmount the tranny from the block, or will it all come out easily?

I never have trouble getting that pin out. I take a normal sized philips screwdriver and a mallet to it and it comes right out after a couple whacks. I do it under the car as well. Removing the transmission to remove the shift linkage is a lot more work than is required.
Thanks for your help guys. Also in that other thread where they were talking about using the AC mounting bolts, do you think my engine has the bolts even though there is no AC? If not, are there some other bolts in the engine that are tapered like those?
that pin is cake, I went to most auto stores looking for an 8mm pin punch, but no one had it, so I took a phillips head screwdriver.. and a hammer, and got the pin out with no problem.

When I pulled my motor, I pulled the motor and tranny out together with the linkage still attached. I took a few whacks at it and couldn't get an leverage to get a good shot at it. And the air hammer was a pain to use upside down under a car with little room. I have a nice random bolt lying around that is 8 mm wide and works like a charm.

Agreed, but he is pulling his motor and tranny for a B series. I would never go through the hastle of pulling the tranny just to pull hte linkage. I can't really think of any reason other than to pull your motor/tranny that you would need to take that pin out.

Well I got the ****** out, and I realized right at the end why it's called the bitch pin. Not because it's a bitch, no no, but because instinctivly the first thing you say when it goes flying around the garage is "****** Bitch!"
haha
I ended up breaking a shitty nut driver apart just to get to the shaft to get it out, the screwdriver thing just seemed to spread the bottom out and it got stuck.

so your doing a swap? if that's the case, you don't even have to remove it. have someone go under the car and feed it through as the engine is being lowered into the bay. cake!
