Default An observation on gas milage.

I've put nearly 10,000 miles on my Fit; mostly a combo of city and highway driving. I've gotten a consistant 34-36 mpg. A few weeks ago I was on a longer trip on Interstates and one morning I got in with a fast crowd and just went with it. We did 300 miles in well under 4 hours. There were times that we hit 95 but I just didn't want to take this car faster than that. When we dropped out to get gas I discovered that we had gotten 41.3 mpg for that run. The A/C was going full blast to boot. What does that say about the aerodynamics of the Fit? BTW, it felt solid at 95 even though there was a fairly stiff crosswind. CCC

cars always gets better mileage on long consistant (no stop and go) trips. but i wouldnt advertise here that u did 95 cuz i know couple people here that have lost loveones by jerks(not calling u a jerk) going way too fast.

What's way too fast? Some people die going 25 mph. On certain highways at certain times of the day I feel driving 95 is safer than going 20 through my own residential area.

I've never heard of any gasoline powered car being more fuel efficient at 95 then at 65. Unless parasitic drag decreased at 95 and your engine and drivetrain produced less friction at the higher rpm required to drive 95 then I'd say you've mad a mistake.

I agree --- BUT you can get up to 44mpg with a FIT so 41 is still possible --- maybe not doing 90+mph though

I'm not sure what your point is. You agree, but then you disagree... Did you want to offer insight on how to achieve 41 or 44 mpg without doing anything ridiculous?

If I can get 46mpg with A/C, 4 people and a full trunk in my 89 civic sedan, a Fit is very capable of getting 46.4MPG.

It's more about learning how to drive properly. Most people don't realize that a few small driving modifications can make a huge difference.
