clearance issue (40's or 45's)
My car is slammed (2.25 inches) and i used to have 205/40/R16's for tires and if I was taking a corner fast they would sometimes rub just a little bit. It was something I could deal with. I have a question about 45's compared to the 40's. will there be a lot more rubbing against the wheel well?
EDIT: When you said 40's or 45's, I thought you were talking about the aspect ratio of the tire size, not the offset, in which case...
Yes, there will be more rubbing against the wheel well. That's because the sidewall height is taller, so the outer diameter is larger.
For your '95 Civic, stick with 205/40-16.

You're backwards. With positive offset (what our FWD cars have), the lower the number, the more the wheels stick out from the car.

Don't mean to hijack, but I have a question in regards to this discussion and i don't want to create a new thread.
I have a set of Rota Circuit 8's (dunno the offset) shod with 205/50/15 RT615's. My car rubs in the front and back on hard turns and in the back on fast bumps (like smooth drops in elevation on the freeway, not pot holes) I've rolled the insides of my fenders as much as I can without actually moving the outer fender line. Is this happening because of the wheel offset, or the actual tire size?

It could be either one. What kind of car do you have (year, model, version)?

Then the tire size is the problem (or part of it, at least)
Rubbing usually occurs when you use a tire that's more than 20 mm wider than stock and is larger in diameter than stock. Your car came with 175/70-13 tires from the factory. 205/50-15 is 30 mm wider, and it's also 1.9 percent larger in diameter. You would be better off using 195/50-15, which is only 20 mm wider and only 0.1 percent larger in diameter and will be less likely to rub. If you want to keep using Azenis, they are supposed to be available in 195/50-15 starting in November. Otherwise, there are lots of other very good tires available in 195/50-15, including the Goodyear F1 GS-D3, Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212, Kumho Ecsta SPT, etc.

I'm happy with the 615's and I'd like to get another set, but was bummed that they didn't offer a 195. Also I was going to ask what was a good 195 tire out there, and you provided 3. Question, since my car came with that size tire, does that mean all 92-95 hatches would rub with the same setup I have, including the Si? Thanks for your responses though.
Edit: You wouldn't happen to know of a good track tire in 195/50/15, would ya?

Yes. They're good at different things though. The Goodyear F1 GS-D3 is excellent on both dry and wet pavement, and lasts a long time; excellent all-around tire. The Hankook is more of a dry-pavement type tire, although I don't think it's as good in the dry as the Goodyear, and it won't last as long, either. The Kumho SPT is more of a "bang for the buck" type tire, performance not as good as the other tires I mentioned, but it's a very good street tire and the price makes it a great bargain.

Probably. However, there are sometimes slight differences between one car and another (especially since some cars are lowered more than others). But I wouldn't recommend a 205/50-15 on any '92-95 Civic.

The Hankook Ventus RSS Z211 is available in that size, in all three compounds (soft, medium, hard).

the hankook rs2 tire is all i will run or the 615 good handling and traction and do pretty good in the rain but not as good as the old azenis sport loved that tire and still miss it

The RT-615 Azenis come in a 205/40-16, which is better diameter match than the 205/50-15s for you. I use them on on 00 GSR for a little final drive change for auto-x and HPDE use. 205/50-15 or 205/45-16 is correct for the Integra.
I just wish they'd make a 225 width in a reasonable diameter. I'd honestly be all over a 225/40-15, a 225/35-15, or even an absurd 225/35-14 (I think 14s will clear Integra brakes).
