WHITE SMOKE START-UP???
hey wasup...i have a 99 si with roughly 139,000 miles on the chassis and about 5000 miles since the rebuild. Ever since the rebuild, I keep seeing white smoke every time I start up the car. As soon as I turn it on, a small cloud of white smoke comes out my exhaust and goes away. This only happens when I start the car...doesnt happen at idle. I took it to a local shop and they said it may have to do my cylinders being overbored and the pistons aren't sealing. They said I had to get my cylinders re-machined costing $1-2k. What do you guys think? Thanks.
i know that sometimes in the morning cars get a cloud of smoke because its cold due to condensation and all that...but even when its hot in the middle of the day...a puff of smokes blows out when i start the car
I have the same problem, its more like a bluish smoke so its oil. I also got my motor rebuilt with new seals so idk if its the seals in both cases.
Does your motor consume any oil?

if the white smoke dissipates fairly quickly then its condensation forming in the exhaust and that is normal.
if the smoke "lingers" for a bit and you can see it blowing down the road then it might be coolant.

I wouldn't worry about it if its only when you start the car, worry about it when it happens at regular idle.
BTW: Does it happen at high RPM's? OR when you're idling and rev it hard?
