Default B16A SiR II

Hey guys this might be a dumb question, but pardon me im returning back to the Honda world after leaving it for quite some time. I just recently purchased a 99 Honda Civic hatch. Im interested in doing an engine swap. The only thing is i keep geting kind of lost with all of these engine codes. Can anyone here tell me if all B16A SiRII engines are OBD II. I need to buy an engine that is OBDII, for the reason that I dont want to have any problem with passing inspections. Thanks!

Flashoptions.com has the OBD-2 B16's. Or you can try to find one from a 99-00 Si. If you want to keep it smog legal I wouldnt recommend using one from a Del Sol VTEC, since they stopped making those in 97 and if Im not mistaken, if the engine isnt from the same year or newer it wont pass smog. But I could be wrong on that. All I can say is just ask the seller of the engine whether its OBD-1 or OBD-2. Get the computer code and tell from that.

Yeah the motor must be of the same year as your car or newer. I have a 96 ek hatch with a b16a SiR-II and its from a 95 so it wont pass smog... also it's an OBD1 motor. My opinion go B18C1 or B18C5 or B16B and pass inspection. Just my opinion.

Yeah I would go GSR but i heard they bend valves easily. B18C5 or B16B would be Ideal but theyre too much money. See I already have a turbo kit, i just wanted to see if i can get a B16a somewhere so that i can pass inspections.

Any JDM OBD1 engine can be made to pass OBD2 emission. They won't know what year the motor is. Just tell them it is a 2000. The only addition would the OBD2 oil pump so that the crank flucuation sensor can be bolted on, second O2 sensor, and an OBD2 ecu obviously.

Beware though, some techs are really smart and will look at the head and see the year stamp on it.

There are OBD2 B16A's, called the SiR III, its OBD2A though, as opposed to your obd2b, they are more spendy, rated at 175HP, but are a harder find than a SiR II, which with a catalytic converter, will pass emissions, I did, and I have the same swap in my 00 EX with a cat (SiR II). The only difference is the second o2 sensor, which is an easy add if you need it, and also, a CKF sensor, its a 3 pin sensor that bolts up to the oil pump housing, the bolt hole to install it should be there, mine is, but I also have a 84mm pump gear, some have 80mm gears, and I dont know if the bolt hole is present on those or not, but that sensor isnt emissions related anyways. The only sensor that is not easily swapped is the gas tank purge valve, youd need an OBD2 ECU for that to work right, but all it does is prevent gas tank emissions, not motor emissions, if anything, it would help emissions by not adding fuel vapor.
