Default honda tech needed!!!timing belt change gone wrong.

i posted a while back about my car.

well here's where it stands as of now, it's a 1990 accord auto and i had the timing belt replaced because it went out. now my car runs but my new alternator doesn't charge the battery. now i'm pretty sure it's a missing ground wire or a wire that wasn't replaced properly, but i heard through the grapevines that my uncle has a friend who is a honda mech that had the same problem and it's a 10 minute fix, sadly though my uncle is a piece ** **** and isn't gonna tell me what's wrong with it( f****** drama).

the grapevine was my other uncle, do you guys think they're full of it or is there a solution more specific than wiring and fuses?

if you think your alternator is not working, check the wires to see if its on properly. there should be a big harness that plugs right in, thats the power/hot. then there should be another smaller one that is held on by a nut, thats a ground, make sure it has a good enough ground.

the wire that is held on by the 10mm nut is the battery positive lead, grounding it out WILL blow the main fuse.
What leads you to believe the ALT. is not working? There should have been no need to unhook anything on the ALT when changing the T-belt; is the drive belt tight?
You are stating it's a "new" alt.? if it's a reman from the parts store it could be bad from the box.

the alternator was purchased a month or two before i had this problem and the problem i have with the car is i can drive it when the battery has charge but when the charge runs low the car shuts off, i took it to auto zone and all they could tell me was my alternator wasn't charging the battery.

i just checked my belts, forgot to mention that the belts are noisy and i just noticed my belts are pretty tight. i think i was told on another post that the belts are supposed to have an inch if slack, mine have nearly no slack.

1 inch for alternator belt seems too much slack in my opinion. i just change my friend's alternator and it has about half an inch, maybe less, and it works fine. check your wires to see if its ground properly, if the ground on the alternator is causing you to blow a fuse, than you have an electrical problem. some wires are probably accidentally touching another.

I'd rather have a salvage yard Honda Alt. than a reman from the parts store;
I've only said this every time I'm changing out a 'reman' for a salvage yard alt. Hundred times in the last 20 years.
Why do people replace alternators when the brush pak only costs around $25.

you are already invested in it, I'd take it back and get a replacement and hope the replacement will last a few months.
FYI we had a customer bring his own ALT a few weeks ago. We told him we would not warranty labor; 3 trips to the parts store later he got a working ALT.
Pretty flippin sad.

cause out of the 4 honda alternators that i have in my grage only one had worn brushes the other 2 that failed had bad rectifiers.
