my ls turbo runs great but every time i get on the highway for more than 15 min goin an average of 60 mph my car will overheat, temp goes to bout 3/4 of the way up.. i can drive around town all day and not have any problems but when im on the highway it will always do it.. i am using a half size civic rad and i had 2 fans on it but that made no diff so i went back to just one. there is no air in the system and i dont run a full thermostat. it always open basically. i cut the middle out of the stock thermo stat so its always open. could that have anything to do with it?

 

could be since the coolant cant be cool down enough before it goes back into the motor

 

thats sort of what i was thinkin.. maybe coolant is moving too fast and cant stay in rad long enough to cool properly on highway. anyone else think so ?

 

i would put a working thermostat in it.

 

check ur headgasket.

 

I had the same problem in my civic.... in my case it was that the radiator was clogged up. I changed it out then turbo'd the car and never had a problem.

 

you also need to check and see if you have the fans wired to blow in the correct direction. if it is on the engine side of core and wired as a pusher it will be fighting the air coming into the core...common mistake if aftermarket fans installed.

 

Check the coolant level first

Is the car running funky on the AFR's? If so, I would check the headgasket, could be shot somewhere due to lifting of the head. Otherwise do what these other guys are saying, make sure if you set the fans up, the one on the front of the car is a "puller" not a "pusher". Make sure that the inside fan is a "pusher."

fans are all right.. coolant is good and bled well. i put in a working thermostat today so i guess ill try that and see what happens..

had the same problem on an old 87 civic I had a long time ago, same solution

It equates to a flow restriction. If your radiator isn't clogged, perhaps the restriction is elsewhere.
