Default How To Change Rear Main Oil Seal

Any instructions on how to change the rear oil main seal on a b16? Does the transmission have to be removed? Thanks.

Yes the transmission and the flexplate / flywheel will also have to be removed.

if you read the OEM manual it recomends that the seal be .020 to .015 from touching the bottom of the hole. I don't know why

for the rear main oil seal, do I need to buy anything else other than the seal? Other gaskets around it or so that should be replaced while doing it? Thanks.

Might as well change your oil and gear box fluid while you are at it. Unless you have just changed it.

You are going to need some tall jackstands and a third jack to support the engine.

A clutch alignment tool would be something nice to have as well.

Pretty much everything you will need for a clutch job except for a new clutch/flywheel.

if that is the only seal that is leaking then nothing else needs to be replaced.
