Balancer/crankpulley removal for civic std
What tool do you guys use to hold the the crankpulley so, I can attempt to remove it on a d15b1. I bought the special tool for my 94 integra from snap-on, but it won't work with this car. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
A powerful impact gun is your best bet.
Otherwise, here are two ways I have found to work. Jam a screwdriver in the flywheel teeth, and use a big breaker bar on the bolt to bust it free. I've had better luck with this next one though. There are small holes in the pulley, and i'll turn it so i can put a strong grade bolt through and get it wedged against the motor block. Then you just torque it off w/ a breaker bar. It's not an easy thing to do unless you have some air power!

Thanks for the tips. Where did you get access to the flywheel teeth? Did you remove the starter or did you remove the fly wheel cover near the oil pan. I have the impact gun, but no air compressor. grrrr I can't wait till I have my own garage.
The one time I did use the flywheel trick, the motor was out of the car and the transmission wasn't attached, so I'm not sure where the best spot is.
Here's a thread from yesterday. You should try searching on your own next time!

That thread doesn't help me anyway. I can't move the car, I don't have an air compressor, and I can't weld a tool together to hold the pulley. I was simply asking if there was a tool available to the public that will hold the pulley while the engine is in the car.
