wow.. ok after replacing axles, clutch, mounts, etc etc.. the last frigging bolt on this project spree is the damm refill bolt on the tranny.. it won't budge..

i can't use a breaker bar cuase of where the bolt is, so its wrench only, box end..

can i pop out an axle and fill it in there.. ug.. help !!

 

i honestly never use and never have used the "refill bolt" ..you can fill it at where the reverse light sensor is...

 

unbolt the 100mm bolt that holds the speedo in... get a long funnel and fill it that way.

 

pull the speed sensor out. one bolt, take the sensor out and fill it there. Thats how I do it always just because its easier to get to.

 

Damn 4sd4dr just barely beat me to it. He posted while I was typing. Lol.

I can add something though. Since you cant get the fill bolt out, you won't know when to stop filling. I always just throw in exactly 2 quarts and I have never had a problem.

 

I hate to ask this, but did you try the trick where you put another wrench on the end of the first wrench so you get twice as much torque on the bolt?

 

i was looking for anything, its an std.. you guys sure it has one.. any pics of it, or where its located... i don't know if the 4speed tranny has it in..

Yes the 4spd tranny has a speed sensor as well.

 

k, just checked out found 1 sensor, has 2 wires looks like its in the gear box

but its not 100mm or 10mm if that wa sa mistype, its slightly bigger than 17mm, prob 18 or 19..

is that what your talking about.. theres a lot a very very small vacom tube that dumps off, it would take bloody long but would that work as well..

The speed sensor is on top of the tranny towards the back. It will be in the casing right above the diff area(the axles). It is a 10mm bolt that holds down a little lock for it. There is a cable that is clipped into the middle of it, this is what drives the speedometer. If your speedo works, then it is definately there.

Get yourself a nice long box-end wrench with an end that will fit over the end of the first wrench. Hook it over the first one, pull for all you're worth, and maybe even try whacking it with a hammer.

Moral of the story: Never overtighten that plug!!

I tried to do this by pulling the speed sensor. After a day of cursing, I just removed the back-up light sensor and filled it that way.

My speed sensor wouldn't budge.

i'm not sure which one i used, but i tried the one in back first, with tyhe 10mm and the clip.. that was a pita.. and filled VERY slowly.. and hard to get to.. aka waste of my time

then i tried my first idear, the switch in front with 2 wires, it's a 19mm wrench, and that worked great. Just flushed 4 qtrs threw the bastard, that thing is cleannnnn.

Yeah, this has always worked for me as well. You can always kick the **** out of the wrench too.

 

I use a 27mm for a breaker bar. Chrome on chrome tends to cause some extreme slippage (especially with oil involved) so be carefull

 

I've always used the speed sensor. If it's already out, it's easier for me cause it's at a better angle than the fill hole.

 

pretty sweet tip yo, I never thought of that. Ive always had something really annoying to try and refill the transmission

 

Next time just fill through the axle hole before putting the last axle in
