Intake and exhaust valve springs are never interchangable. They should be labled which is which.

Intake/exhaust springs have a stripe of paint on them. If I remember correctly, the intake springs have a *** stripe and the exhaust springs have a *** stripe. It's usually hard to see at first because most of the paint falls off over time.

ahh so confusing, i just read a thread on d-series.org that says the reddish/brownish painted ones belong on the intake side cuz they're the stiffer ones. and the blueish/greenish ones are on the exhaust side, can someone confirm which is correct? i dont wanna put em in wrong and screw up my engine

I honestly don't know. I just remember that one side was green and one side was red.

This is where having a repair manual helps.

the manual says nothing about the spring . but yea the spring does have the 2 diff colors... can someone with a z6 open their valve cover up to see which color is on which side? bump for answer

Fine, I got off my lazy *** and went into the garage where I have 2 z6 heads lying around. Results:

-Intake springs are definitely red.

-Exhaust springs are definitely green (actually, it's more of a blue/green).
