Brake Pad Shims function
Hi fellow HT,
I have just changed my rear calipers, pads, rotors on my 94 Teg LS and realized the pads that I purchased did not come with the metal shims. Is it ok for me to drive without the shims installed or will it cause some serious damages on my new rotors and pads?
Thanks

techniquely you are suppose to take the old shims off and put them on the new pads if the new pads don't come with them but its really not necessary, just spray some brake quiet on the back of the pads and it'll be fine. The purpose of the shims is to reduce the chattering/noise on the pads when the caliper hits the pad (brake quiet alone works fine) and also there is that indicator tab that makes that annoying *** screaching when your pads get low and thats about it.
